Hi Graham, welcome to Sealine. One of my favourite dams because of the nice fish I have caught there and the fact that it is in the middle of the Borakololo Nature Reserve (google it). There are crocs in the dam, the warning signs are old and rusted (so they must be big) but I have never seen one. Late afternoon/evening you can hear the Jackals call and by day the Fish Eagles. You can see the animals come down to have a drink on the opposite side of the dam. Ablutions are ok but not great. Beware of snakes there are plenty, keep the tent zipped up. Lots of monkeys so dont leave fruit/food lying around, they will drive you mad. If you are travelling through the township areas watchout for drunk pedestrians, stray animals, speed humps and of course huge potholes. Still wanna go fishing there LOL. No boats or canoes allowed, bait boats are. My success at the dam has been with Almond scented baits. A couple of years ago the dam was hit by a chemical spill and a lot of fish died. The dam is recovering nicely and there is still a lot of nice Carp, Barbel, Blue Kurper and Bass. Tight lines.

Hey Otto, thanks for the info!

Sounds perfect.  ::S

Any tips on where the spots are and what bait is best for the big barbel?

I used to have good catches with sweet and fruity baits. The old trusted tuitty fruity mieliepip with a small backing used to work well. Reel Run, strawberry, and FX/perdeby also works well. Have not fished the dam for about 2 years but I am glad that the fishing has picked up. Just remember to pack 2 gazebos as there is no shade close to the water.

If you go to the camping area, just watch out for the hippos as they sometimes like to visit late at night!

Hi guys, just wanted to give you some feedback.

Went to Klipvoor this past weekend, nice place. Luckily no Hippos or snakes but the monkeys hit us while we were still busy setting up.

 ::S

The weather held up nicely and we managed to catch about 7 carp, 3.5kgs being the heaviest.

We also targeted barbel and got about 12 fish, 9kgs being the heaviest. :wfish

The carp liked the plain stuff with the odd one coming out on sweet flavours.

All the barbel where caught on chicken hearts and livers.

All the fish where released again, this is really a beautiful place with the all the fish eagles.

The facilities at the fishing camp is not too bad, at least there is warm water.

I would highly recommend this venue for weekend fishing and I'm already busy planning the next trip.

Thanks for your help!!

Hi Guys

I want to do some fishing at Klipvoor Dam this weekend and I was wondering what camp site would be the best to stay at, Moretele, Phudufudu or Moretele? And would it be worth taking along any fly tackle?  Thanks in advance!

@ Tyrone,

Both of the camp sites are not next to the dam, Moretele Camp is next to the river below the dam wall. I have no experience of the river but there will most probably belots of Barbel. Phudufupudu Camp is in the bush, so if its fishing you want to do then you will have to camp next to the dam DIY style.
