HOW MUCH BRAID AND MONO

Hi guys.

A very kind person has donated me 150m 0.24mm braid.

 My question is how much mono do I put on the spool as backing. I have 0.30mm mono.

Will this work?

The reel is a Regal 5i 4000.

The reel comes with 2 spools, take the spare spool and wind the braid on as tight as you can, ALL THE BRAID, then when the braid is all loaded connect the braid to mono (2 biminis) and start putting on the mono till the spool is full (mono not so tight).

Now take the spool off

Put the empty spool on, tie the mono onto the spool and simply transfer from the one spool to the other

What is the reason for using mono (or any nylon for that matter) as backing?

The reason I am using mono as backing is because I got 150m braid for free.

My spool takes 300m. So will just be using the mono to fill the spool.
