Hooks on Poppers&Spoons

Hi guys
I'd like to get some feedback from the old salty dogs as to what type of hooks to have on spoons and plugs / poppers.
Why do manufactures supply these lures with treble hooks as standard,if the first thing anybody on an angling program does is replace them with single hooks.
I understand it's better for releasing the fish less damaged, but does it improve the hookup at all.?
If anybody does recommend replacing trebles with singles is there a preferred direction.?
I've got big rooster poppers and stick baits in mind, being thrown from the side.
Will appreciate your input,

The way in which I have fished poppers and stick baits is with back to back single hooks underneath and a single point up at the back. The other option for poppers is running a single assist hook from the front half way down. Does make a helluva difference in the damage done on hard fighting decent size fish. For spoons a single off the back is all you need. That said three hooks is better than one from a hookup perspective which is why you will see guys using them when fishing for the pot.

what type of stickbaits and brand ? you can fish as Frans says - called a baker rig , also add an assist hook to the front eye of the popper so it hangs were the middle hook would sit and no back hook , also add a assist hook to the tail , single 8/0-10/0 jobu hook on the tail and Owner ST 41 assist hooks as belly hooks , there are lots of ways to rig lures you just need to play around with hook placements as most lures are made and tested to swim correct with trebles esp stickbaits .

If you fish over a rocky bottom or near kelp, use singles. This way you can sink to the bottom with a reduced chance of getting snagged up. Your hookup ratio will also go down slightly, but predatory fish usually commit on the kill, so if you get a knock and don't go vas, just let it sink a few seconds again before completeing the retrieve... Most of the time they hit again as soon as you start reeling in again!

When fishing for Leeries or any species with the intension of Catch-n-Release, Always use Singles since this does a lot less damage to the fish compared to terbles.

If you're fishing over clean sand bottom and/or intend to keep the fish for the pot/braai, use trebles, the hookup ratio is a bit better, even if you do hook the fish in the top of the head or some other fowl place you're not proud of... But once you have supper in the bag, switch to Singles (This does not take long with small pliers) to reduce damage and scarring to the fish.

Thanks for advice, I'll play around with a few different set ups.
Us inland guys don't get too many opportunities to get connected to good size fish, so when it happens we need to make sure it sticks!!!

Last bit of advice though
Attaching 50 pound braid to 1mm leader
Any particular knot, or just a power swivel or steel loop?
