Mantis, no need for a cooler box. What we normally do is open 2 box's and everyone fish's from it. When its 3/4's used up, you simply open up another 2 box's, pour some salt water over it, to speed up the defrosting and you're set. This way, your bait is always cold and stiff, allowing you to fillet it with greater ease.
I prefer .42 or .50 maxima for hook traces. Simply becuase its a hard line and doesn't wear out so quickly like the softer DoubleX and Siglon. I've also used .45, .50 and .55 kingfisher for hook traces.
Sinkers, as light as possible. Depending on your tackle, anything from 1/4 ounce to 3 oz. Remember, you're not casting, merely droping your bait to the bottom. Ball sinkers, barrel sinkers, bottle sinkers all work.
Baiting is is VERY simple. Fillet a pilchard. Now cut the fillet into 3 thin strips. Use a single strip on a hook, with-out using cotton!! Another option is to cut chokka into thin strips, tenderise and hook a peice on and THEN add a peice of pilchard. Once again, we never use cotton on the boat to tie bait with. Since you're not casting a bait, simply dropping it, no cotton is needed to secure the bait. Similarly, when using mussel, simply cut a large mussel into 3 peices and thread on a single peice, also with no cotton. With prawn, you simply thread ONE prawn onto the hook and then drop the bait to the bottom!!

Fantastic stuff , Unfortunately I will not be in CT that w\end , going to Eastern Cape for the w\end. Actually your brother in law is most likely going with. Maybe we can organise a trip again afterwards ? I would love to try boat fishing as I am thinking of getting me one as well.

My father warned me about days like these.. the day you have to choose between your wife or fishing....(Sigh).. boy am I going to miss her.... Unfortunately chaps, it does not look as if i can make the trip. Wife's birthday party on the saturday night. Guests arrive at 18:00 and i got to make a potjie. (Seafood.. how ironic) So I am going to have to bail on this one... Dont want too, but gonna have to... for the sake of a happy home.
