and riaans way better than any other shop i know him from down at kzn he had a shop there. bought my first okuma magnetix from him there. so he always gives good discount even on good prices. got my shimano alivio and shimano dl6000 baitrunners for R800 a set. thats not bad

Ek het geen intensie gehad om MAIS Woodmead sleg te in my POST nie maar voel dat ons as lede mekaar kan help rakend winkels wat goeie diens en die beste pryse gee te ondersteun. So glo ek ook dat ieder en elk hou nie daarvan om uitgebuit te word nie en mens wil nie nuweling weg dryf van hengel asgevolg van winkels wat net uit is op hoe wins grense.

If you want to see expensive, take a trip to Cape Town.
Anything fresh water related is going to cost at least 20% more than the equivalent item up in Gauteng.
And that's if you can find it. I had to spend R240 on a standard, no-frills keep net, because there simply wasn't any available. And that's after going to 4 different tackle shops.
Don't try to buy fishing line under .2 mm in diameter. They guys don't stock it, because the sea fishing crowd don't buy it.
As for dips. Good luck finding any worth having. I've resorted to making my own. The only dip I bought in the last 6 months was a Super Cast Juanna and that set me back almost R100 for 50ml.
Down here, you pay R35 for 1kg feed. I have to buy 6 x 4kg bags at a time, in order to get a price that is even remotely reasonable. I'm at the point where I'm getting serious about making my own feed as well. It's simply become to expensive to support the tackle shops.
As if that's not enough, on average, a single 3/4 oz spring will set you back R5. The cheapest I've seen them were at R3.50 and that's when you buy 50+ at a time.
Sadly, I also understand the tackle shop owners. They are getting reamed by the suppliers. I know one gent who used to gets his dips from an up country Super Spar, for cheaper than the sales rep down here will let him have it.
Now how do you compute that?
And keep in mind... that's if you can get it. For the most part, it's just not on the rack to begin with. I've been looking for a Bunspice dip since June last year. I'm yet to see one at any of the 5 tackle shops I frequent. In desperation I've wangled some bunspice powder from a bulk bakery and again, made my own dip.
Don't try to get a Mustad 9555 size 8 hook either. The sales people look at you as if you are mad to angle with such a small hook.
Then when you do manage to find a shop that caters for the fresh water angler, it's all species angling stuff at double the price you would pay if you ordered online.

Ek koop gewoonlik by die Pro Shop. Hulle het wel bja nice goed maar, was gister daar en als wat ek gesoek het is nie daar nie. As n mens kan ry sal ek eerder voorstel gaan na leons hengel in PTA noord. Dis meer vir konvensionele hengel, waar as Pro shop meer gevokus is op spesie. Pro shop het bja nice spesie goed en see toerusting maar, voel vir my bja beperk op confensionel bank hengel.

i have had dodgey run in at both WA and mia's guys do i quick calculation when shopping there have a rough idea how much the stuff is that you have put in your baskets, have had a few items rang up more than once.
both these shops dont have proper POS systems no scanners etc.(hulle slaan net die till en jy moet betaal)
and dont be scared to push them for prices tell them you can get so and so at a better price's they will probly give to at same price.
these guys make HUGE markups and catch plenty people that way.
i saw a tackle box advertised sometime back it was advertised in the SL(R169.95) and went to buy one.
walk into the shop only to see the box had a price of R699.95 on it asked the guy says thats the price in stubborn/arrogant manner.
to avoid the argument walk to the magazines showed him HIS add payed the R169.95 and left
we should start a thread on tackle store experiences in sure there will be some shocking stories out there.
on the positive side there is a small shop in springs (Carp Inn) what a pleasure walking into that okes store,helpfull, knowledgeable the guy behind the counter owns the store and is a fisherman.

When she asked the price per unit, when doing what is considered to be a bulk order, she has to pay R49.00 per 4kg bag.

I can buy directly from Mias, a retailer, have it picked up and delivered to my front door, for less than this lady can buy from the local supplier.

Dude i work at Mias Woodmead and i can safely say that we do have proper POS machines and software on our machines.Every item is barcoded and inventoried ,i know becuase thats my job and we scan each item at the till when customers purchas goods.What are you on about we dont have proper POS systems?
