No....wait maybe I never explained myself correctly.
I will use 2 rods/2 reels.
The Saltist50 as a Kite Line Reel.(yes...my opinion its too small)
Fishing reel...50trini or 50tiga.
I just dont believe I will get all the line I want onto the saltist.

AHOY......Any BIG Reels lying around over there.....

Buy a scarborough for th eKite . Kla . I got that penn and it's slow on the coming in - but it weks .......

we got to give your Rig a fly on sunday man , flippit .
i got the Kite- you got the bait buddu- I'm going to order a rigger now .R600 aint cheap - but i reckon this will work likea bomb .
Psy , really , as long as we first try it out just Over the back line - say 50 Metres passed it - we should be fine man . That'll work like a bomb . Those Reels , alles .
for the tuna Style goeders you considering later - well- then a bigger Reel Will pretty Much Be a Mandatory item .

What do you want to fish for???

Eds or non eds?

From rocks or from the beach, what break strain line do you want to use and what capacity can the reel take, s/steel spool or what, what tip rod, etc, etc, etc!!!

You must have balanced equipment. You cant use a Penn 500a with a 130 pound tip with rollers, no gimble bucket but a normal bucket and no harness.

You will kill yourself with the wrong stuff. We will wait for you so long to reel in before we can let you go to happy hunting ground.

Tell us what you want to target, the area, rock or beach etc. Give as much info as possible.

We will all help you to have the best for what you want to do!!!!!

Beat regards and tag fish!!

Thunder and others...... Targetting edibles primarily / firstly, as we figure we need to get to know the gear before we sail it looong distance. Firstly fishing beaches (hoping prevailing wind plays along) later with more savvy~ hope will go flying at deepwater points !

Reel for fishing: Saltiga 50 c/w Ultima .55/16kg/b/wl 600mtr or Trini50 c/w kingfisher/b/wl.

Rod: EH TF 143/7 CL PG.

Kite reel: KP#10 wi speed spin.70 and dyneema 1500mtrs.

Kite Rod: EH Custom

Do I stand a fighting chance here?

I use a Penn Senator 12/0 with 1800m of 80lbs Dacron. The rod is a boat rod with rollers with a 130lbs tip. I send my bait about 1000m to 1200m into the sea with my kite. Bait is anything from 1.5kg to about 15kg.

If you want more info you can mail me. You are more than welcome and I will help you where I can.

Nothing wrong with a 900H or Penn 9/0 to start with. Use 50lbs Dacron or Micron line and you will have enough line for kite fishing.
If you are not sure give me a shout and I will help where I can.

Ok .
so we Went down to Gericke's , to do a bt of Kite fishing ...........................................................................

Let me Start , by saying that it is explained a lot easier on the site than it would appear.

Straight shots folks- If you In a hurry to get a line out - don't start .
Between Psy and myself , i had a line snap on me and i had to hurry off into the water to retrieve the kite . This , in water where i wanna slide for a mother shark . Brilliant .
all told ,it took us a lomng time to tack the kite in the right direction - something i must add , that it is one point where the miller's kite Excelled , in relation to Mine .
I amnot sure if i am just dumb , but the Delta was yanked around like a ragdoll at first , and i Felt the wind speed was just a tad too high to make the Kite fly stable .
as a result - it nose dived and went beserk , ditched itself into the water , and after that , had one of it's carbon sparrs work it's way through the light kite Material , somethign I am Now In the process of addressing with hi fly .The Material is Super light, but on the pressure points , and places where it'd crash , i feel this Needs to be addressed on the spot , at the fabriek .
Not all of us have Mommie's as creative as Mine that have the machine to sow new imrpoved sparr socks onto their Kites .
i have mailed them and told them accordingly .
So .
Two Methods Were used . In howling wind , the bait ferry refused point blank to take up a Mackie(small ) in a hotdog Chokka .i Was de Moer in .we then put the bigger bait ferry out , but because the kite Was flying high up , it made the trajectory of the ferry almost like going up table Mountain in the Cable Car . Nee dankie .Sa fish finally chopped the Mack and Chokka in half , and it draggged it's way up painfully to the release point . by Now we'd not let the Kite out to a required distance , as we'd been doing minor mods etc to get the thing to fly in the correct direction ( Tacking , etc.)

so , instead of letting all the line out to the pint we wanted , we got over excited to see the thing FLYING , and let out the Ferry at the incorrect distance- to our detriment .
Nou ja .
I'm telling you , that , in front of other selainer s, unless you've done this sort of thing before , the kite will either boost your Ego and make you look like a complete pro-and the locals will think you're a Stuuuud , Or- it's going to allow you to Make yourself look Like a complete and utter FOOL on the sand . ... heed my words , you have been warned ....

The Easier Method between the two , i Found , was the Bait drop Method . shorten the sinker trace , but My advice to newbies , would be to fit a swivel further down the Trace , or - even better- My idea would be to Tie Leader to Mainline with a SWIVEL .so you'll have a 9 Meter Drop to your bait and sinker .
WHY ?- Easy - It keeps the sinker Away from the KITE line - as if the two intertwine and you Try release - you'll have a sinker dangling over your Kite line and it wont Release !!!!
so hook the Release clip onto the second swivel , the start of your , say ....    0.9mm leader (6 0r 7 Meters long ), and from there down to the 3 way , with sinker one end , bait on the other . Perfeccc man... perfec....

It's gonna Look Pretty strange at first , and Might result in the Bait doing a bit of a Drag thing to the drop off point ,but , so be it . it works .even if you don't Feel comfortable with such a long drop use a shorter one , but i reckon the swivel up top , keeping the bait etc away from the kite line is CRUCIAL. someone Draw me a pic !!! Im useless at pictures unless someone is e-mailing me pics of ... oh nevermind .... !!!!

I dont have first hand knowledge of either, but both of them would work perfectly well, ample line capacity, serious drags.Bear in mind that they will be quite heavy to handle. For economy ,you may want to look at the Senator range, especially if it will be used ocasionally.

Check them out at Tackle direct.

Cheers and nice to have you here.

I got my tica 30, 2 speed and 1200m of 100lbs spectra and will probably get another 250-300m of 0.60mm or 180m of 0.70mm on top of it so I'll be dropping at 600m and still have plenty of drag 64lbs to hang on tight with.

Still love the windsong kites 1m, 65cm and 45cm and for the price you pay they are the bomb.

St Francis is next on my list, west wind from behind. 30m of 1.8mm windon, 0.80mm topshot, 100lbs and 64lbs of drag and maybe, just maybe I'll win a battle with a Black Pylie

And here we go to St Francis with little Trini40's and .55 mono with 1.3mm leaders !! Make it sound like we aint got a snowball's chance in hell on conventional gear Craig..

Think a Pylie will see its backside in a big way with that kit, well I sincerely hope so since I will be pulling inn with the same kit.. Hehehe :spite

Not trying to be clever here, but bear in mind that 600m is a long long way,a 1meter Windsong(kevlar spars=less flex=more pull) will possibly haul you out there. However,if the breeze is not at its best, then you could have your kite-line sagging into the swell due to sheer weight over distance,if not on a high vantage point.

This can be remedied by flying another 650x650mm Windsong,roughly tacked at the same angle (if any),fly it out to clean wind 100-150 meters mostly, then tie it onto your main kite's line which could now be out maybe 300 meters.you will now have two kites towing out,and the second one will aid in keeping your kite-line clear of the water, when you let rip with the second 300 meters.

If you're scared of damage to your kite-line ,you could use some electrical tape or sorts to cover the dyneema before knotting the second kite's line onto it(should work).Or you can slip a 10cm Dacron sleeve over your Dyneema(kite-line) and keep it between your kite-reel and first guide untill needed, then "help" it out through the rod's guides ,tape it down front and back, and tie the second kite's line onto that Dacron-covered section.

Hope its of assistance. Make us proud:wfish

Crazy fish thats awesome kit you have there,East -London is also frightfully close to Mazeppa and Kei -mouth (of which the road have now been tarred). Both these spots were renowned kite-fishing spots when it was still practised extensively.
