I finally have a catch to add to this discussion.
Caught this nice little largescale yellowfish at Heia Safari Ranch just north of Joburg.
Another pic of same fish.
I used a 5'6 UL spinning rod with small 800 sized spinning reel and light line.
Also lost one +/- twice this size at my feet - couldn't get my landing net unclipped, so I tried to 'leader' it to shore, which resulted in a broken line, lost fish and brief spell of swearing ...
Lures that got bites and caught were a green Berkley Powerbait Micro Wiggler rigged to resemble a green rock worm and medium Sada curly tails - all rigged on size 14 and 16 hooks with a mojo/splitshot about 15-20cm up the line. Technique - cast upstream or across current flow and let drift along bottom till the lure 'swings' up at the end of drift.
50% bites were in the drift and 50% on the 'swing' - still figuring this technique out though.

A pity that most of the river is still clogged up with hyacinths.
