Guys, got to be the wet Blanket here. Live baiting with vertebrates in freshwater in the RSA is against the law.

So if the law is to be respected and no posts and discussions on Great white and Brindle catches are not allowed in the saltwater section, this should have the same approach in abiding the laws and ordinances governing freshwater angling regulations.

Personally believe a cut and exposed fish head provides faster and more positive enquiries from big Cats

thanks Enigma, knew it applied to platties but not all vertebrates... makes sense cos a cormorant could easily get a beak full of hooks if it spotted your flapping carplet

Totally agree with Enigma. Fish head(esp.grasscarp) is THE best bait for catching big cats. Live bait and everything associated with getting set up right is just too much of a hassle. And platties will most likely get you mostly fish in the 6kg range. Not big enough to be worth considered as BIG...

Hi

As far as i know you are allowed to use fish as live bait in the kzn area as long as the bait is caught from the same water.

I could be mistaken though.
