Hi Guys

There has been a lot of talk amongst the guys about the high sucess rate of the purple Onde Onde! I know from personal experience the white onde onde works like a charm but have never tried the purple one. Does it work well R&S or from the boat?? I have also made a few calls to find out the price on a purple Onde Onde, the guys are selling them for R210!!!!!!!!!! Is this the goiing price or they ripping the arse out of it? I bought a couple on Onde Onde's mid last year and they were R90!!

Thanks Dugongboy, couldnt agree more but they work so dont mind paying R90 for an Onde onde! Been reading a lot of your post , you obviously have been fishing a long time! What is your experience with the purple onde onde over the white? I also see you been to Mozi's plenty.. im leaving for Canda bay on the 26 Feb.. this isint a bad time for couta up in Mozi;s if im not mistaken? The snoek should also be around right?

At R210 they can shove it where the sun don't shine. I think they are opening the market for the trade in fake ondas. I know they are good, but that is a bit extreme.

cougar, I have used the white and the transparent one mostly and have had some sucess on snoek and a few shoal couta but neilg swears by them for shad.(we use bait jigs for shad)
I have been to Inhambane once in February and it was just too hot (try get accom. with AC) the fishing was very good but being cyclone season your trip can be ruined by bad seas.
We haven't caught many snoek there mainly because we don't target them although I caught my PB snoek there - 6kgs.

Onde Ondas are selling at about R100 - R110 in E.L. But I think it's old stock because talk is that the new price is about R145. R210 sounds ridiculous!!!! I am new to trying Ondas so I can't comment on the success of different colours. What I like about an Onda is that you can put a single hook on with an extra split ring and hook faces up. Because the Ondas action and weighting keeps it upright it doesn't snag that easily. Ondas are worth their price but at R210 you're getting ripped off!!!!

If its anything like December there in February then were in trouble although the house we stay in has fans etc..! Shit dont think the guys that organised the trip even thought about the cyclone season!!!!!!:cry1l more than likely be going for couta 90% of the time but im keen to pull some strip baits.. ! Ironically met a local in South Coast the last time we went down there for the shad and that skirt you use on your snoek trace is all he swears by.. it has such an amazing flourescent colour when its in the water its amazing especially when its a lil overcast! Gonna try it now in Canda! Have you got couta on that skirt before or do you stick to your dusters??

Just 1 last thing bru, we will be going for couta most the time so loading the saltist with 25lbs Kingfisher giant abrasion , but the tricky question that always gets me is how heavy should my flouro carbon leader be, (lbs)? and should i be using flouro carbon as my leader?? Im thinking Bimini twist to join the two?

Hey Fluke, thanks for the input! So you recon you just add an extra split ring to the one that comes with the onde and the hook will stand upright?

That's right, with one split ring the hook point faces the side, but once you put a second ring on it faces up or down. With it facing up there is very little chance of the hook point snagging. The Onda is weighted on the bottom so it always runs in the same upright position. A normal metal spoon doesn't have this quality because it is normally an equal weight either side so you never know which way it will fall & swim. Make sure you use small rings and a short shank hook to avoid the hook point being too far back.

R 210 IS CRAZY REALLY, that's taking it about R 110 to far in my humble opinion, it's time to PIRATE THEM.

It's sad how when something SELLS DAMN GOOD how quickly it becomes expensive.

About a hook on the back, people NO SPLITRINGS please. Why create another weak point ?
Solution is very simple.

Take a hook, take normal side and "cut" the eye open, meaning there where the rounding of the eye makes contact with the hook you apply pressure with the side cutter which will open the eye up. Now push the back of your Onda through that gap (with the hook point facing up), once done take normal pliers and bend the eye closed again.
WORKS GREAT, I do it on all my lures.

The only time I use a splitring on the back is if the hook will face sideways if done like explained above.

The 5 have 16mm Pakula hooks on them

BUT

standard on the Pakula hooks you lose fish, you have to bend the tip of the hook a little in, then you don't lose fish.

Look at the tips, you'll see I bend them in a little

Hey Neil.  Very saddened to see no purple in the group.  Or do those live in a seperate compound.  Applying your own group areas act.  Lol:hyst::hyst::hyst::hyst:

Those Spro spoons work like a dream, they really swim beautiful. Problem is that on the Natal coast (just like the bulls) they don't last. One snoek and she's a goner.

Other than that they work well. Caught some nice kings on them.

Another spoon that raised up over the last couple of months is the Gummy flash spoon. Cost about half the price of a std onda and looks exactly the same!

NOTHINGS as tough as a onda!

Rods,

I'm not sexist, or racist or any other ...cist, okay I'm colorcist (haha), I hate everything that's not purple ...

I have also seen a copy of the Onda made by Triton. The quality is terrible though, the weight isn't in the centre and it has a dull look to it. I my opinion the Onda is actually worth the money due to it's exceptional quality.

Fluke, I have one of those Triton "ondas" and I agree with you about the quality. Mine is smooth on one side and rough on the other, but the action is not too bad.
