Hi guys ,

need some advise please?

I am going to ponta malagane in August , and want to put together a budget drop- shot set up to fish plastics, small spoons and small rapalas . I was thinking of getting a diawa procaster 4000 paired with a basic rod of 7-8 ft medium heavy action and with some berkely fireline. my budget is R1500 max . Any suggestions for a good quality set up along this price??

Much appreciated

Ive got the daiwa procaster 3000, very nice reel. The braid and lures are going to clap you the hardest. Ive got my daiwa paired with a shimano scimitar 8 ft 1/4 to 3/4 . Think i paid about R250 for it, cheap and it works for me, obviously there are better rods but im not sure on the prices.

Good luck, always difficult to make choices like this

Dont go Daiwa bru, I have a Shimano vengence 8foot rod paired with a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur spinning reel, 14lb fireline. It should all put you back around about in the same league as your budget. Put in the extra cash and when you hook a 15kilo fish on your light tackle you wont be sorry you spent the extra 200bucks

thanks guys,

Still new to drop shot but, it does make sense in spending a little extra cash on a decent set up- will last longer and hopefully won't let me down when i hook into a bus.

Much appreciated and tight lines!::slr::

I have a Procaster 3000 with a heck of a lot of fish behind its name and its still going strong. I think its one of Daiwa's best budgets. But think overall Shimano is still leading the race.

There is a new sensation rod on the market, cant remember the name now, but its awsome and its got a great price.

I know its quite over your budget but I bought a shimano stradic 4000 and my experience with this reel caused me to buy the 8000 as well. I have submerged both reels in the salt on numerous occasions with just a quick rinse every few days and I have had no problems. I have not yet caught a decent fish, but, as you will read, the can handle pretty big fish... For the price they give a lot of value.
