When it comes to chumming, I normally chum only for Kob since they hunt predominently by Lateral line and smell. Iv found a Hesian bag filled with anchovy oil and chopped up bits of Sard and what ever left over thawed bait works well. While the "digging a hole" method may work, iv used the bag attached with rope at Vidal Ledges at night and pulled some nice Kob.

Bhaiya, concerning ure animal blood ting...... lol, ill watch u from a distance....lol.

Well allow me as a "not so pro" to start off .... chumming def works when you go dropshotting gully's... dump a handful of chopped sards, chokka, sauce and stuff into an area that you want to dropshot, and hey within a few minutes, you'll have every Blacktail, Karanteen and Steentjie in a 3km radius right there...

I've heard that burying your chum works too, but that would have to be on Spring low. No point in doing it on Neaps, otherwise you're just feeding crabs.

Another way of "chumming" that works in the Cape - also on Spring lows, find a batch of Red Bait, cut them open at Spring low, then wait for High tide, the Gallies will be feeding right on that spot....

I've chummed a lot, especially for spotted gullies in the EL area......it works like a charm. In fact they come and nibble on the chum bag under your feet. I've already caught one of 32kilos by hand after jumping on it when it came to the chum bag!! Yes i've got witnesses.....I've tried this on two further occasions but got dealt with as if i had tried to tackle Jona Lomu!!

Hi Guys

Chumming definately works when used the right way. We use chum that is made up of  fish meal and anchovy oils. Each chum bomb is approx. 2kg and comes in a netted bag. We use about 50/60 every time. When fishing of high cliffs/rocks, we simply split open the bag and thow it into the water. Off the beaches, we attach a piece of rope to the bag and anchor using a peg. The bag is allowed to wash with the waves in the shore dump. This method works well for attracting and holding greys. The problem with animal/poultry blood is that the blood tends to clot up and becomes totally useless.

The following 2 products are imported from Australia and works very well in attracting and triggering fish to go into a feeding frenzy. They contain fish pheromones.

this is one of the oldest topics to be brought back , hey master. My view is that different chumming techniques is needed for different waters. But the bag tied with chum and tied to a rope is good.

More recently i take an empty ghost cotton holder fill it with sardine, mackerel ect blood and then tie it on my cable trace. It slowly leaks out. i caught 2 small greys +- 8 and 6 kilos last weekend at la mercy using this method

The way to use the 2nd one is to half fill a 2L coke bottle with fish meal and add the oil to it. Close the cap and drill some holes around the neck area of the bottle.You then attach a piece of thick nylon to the neck of the bottle and do the hammer throw as far as you can. The bottle will float and the water movement then slowly releases the chum to form a slick in the water. You can retrieve the bottle and throw again should the need arise. The first product can be sprayed onto your bait or added to your chum. It contains chemicles to attract fish.
