Hi guys - I spoke with Enigma re this rod and he gave me a list of names of proud owners - unfortunately some by real name and not Sealine Avatar, so incase some spouses are checking out Sealine to find out about our latest acquisitions, I will not name and possibly "shame". I really enjoy my lighter rods with thin grips and smaller reels more and more (Exage 110H, Poseidon HMG LITE etc) - my wife reckons it is a sure sign of "old age creeping up on us" like also wanting a wader for winter fishing ! Currently I'm using my lower gear ratio TLD 1530 S (Old Salt) with Purglas custom built 13ft 5/6oz Chris Uys 350/3/2piece splitgrip rods, for Musselcracker and Kob off the rocks and now I'm starting to look around for a thin gripped lightweight (but tough and powerfull)rod that could do the same job - I don't like rods that are "dead" in the tip for that kind of fishing as accurate casting while not always having the best footing is called for plus a rod that can hold the fish on a short line so as not to reef you and then have the guts and toughness to drag/lift the fish onto a reef or ledge. Does anyone use the 12' Oval DC for this type of fishing - Sruis, Blombos etc ?

I'm proud owner of one of these Oval DC rods and have to say they are awesome rods.

Regarding your question about being able to handle musselcracker its more then enough of a rod to do that,if you decide to get yourself one you surely won't regret it.

Wat ’n great stok! Het myne gekry nie te lank terug nie maar is gekoop vir my De Hoop trips waar ek van Galjoen tot groot Krakers en Steenbras met hom teiken. Dit is by verre my gunsteling visstok op die oomblik. Gebruik hom saam met ’n Ultegra 5500. Een spoel gelaai met 30# braid vir die strande en ’n ander met 50# vir riwwe. Gooi soos ’n droom en is baie sensitief!

I live up in Zululand & have met Enigma on the forum. I have never seen a rod or held one before in my hands till I received my own.
I have read & watched comment from other customers & watched them giving only positive comment & replies over a period.

This year I ordered my rod from Enigma.
I based my rod order purely on the response from other customers & take note,that I do engage in on-line orders/purchases only if I am happy & satisfied in my mind to do so, & first do my homework properly.

I am over the moon with the rod & to be honest you cannot buy that or any of Enigma's custom built rods in a shop - no ways. You might get close to the specs you want , though this one is made to my specs & fits like a glove !!

All I can say is GO FOR IT - ORDER & BUY !!

Oh & by the way - it will handle more than a large cracker !!

Hi Chuck - what size reel,line diameter and sinker weight do you prefer on this rod ? Is there also a 13' to 13'6" version of it and if so, same questions as above ?

Mine is pair with a toruim14 .40 s missile and 3oz or 4oz sinker.

I know you get a 12.6ft with the same specs 2-5oz
Not sure I think 13ft is 6-9oz I speak under correction..

Hi Chuck - amazing rod that can balance with a Torium 14 size reel, cast as light as 3oz and handle 6-19kg crackers ! I just can't see myself deliberately fishing for cracker with my T14 and its small handle and tiny drag washers, Carbontex upgrade or not - do you think the 1530 will be overkill size wise for this rod although weight aint the problem - 15.7oz T14 vs 16.8oz 1530 both empty ? I see Ben also use T14 on his.Has anyone (Craig perhaps),done some off the ground deadlift weight testing with this rod so that I can compare that ability (hang on and pray with the fish not far from your feet), that comes into play with cracker fishing with that of the PG 350/3/2 piece ? Sorry for seeming sceptic, but I know all too well how powerfull these fish are at short range even on rather heavy tackle and although I simply love light tackle, I hate getting my but kicked by a fish !

Dirk is also in the market for a DC, he has a baby Pentagon (and is a self confest Pentagon addict).  He ask me to bring my (sorry, my laaitjie's) 12.6 Oval with because he wanted to get a feel for this rod compared to his Pentagon.

Needless to say he was very impressed with this rod. 
Yes, it will pull a cracker lekker!

Dit is my kraker, spottie, smoothie, selfs koeihaai reel of choice....

Kry dan powerhandle by Chuck en weg is jy... Ek dink hy sal mooi pas by wat ek van die stok gehoor het... Chuck is bietjie bangerig om deesdae mense met sy stokke te laat gooi maar sal graag wil sien wat doen die 15/30 met sy stok.

Ja Marthin, al ken ek julle nog nie almal nie, het ek het so tussen die lyne gelees dat sekere van julle graag julle maters (lees Chuck)se stokke stukkendgooi - gelukkig kry hy darem nuwe vistools op daai manier ! Terloops vir gallies hou ek van die Speedy conversion vir 1530 wat hom maar soos my ou TSM III maak, maar ek hou van die meer torque van die stadiger ratio en daai groot stainless pinion gear vir die krakers veral as jy 'n groot handle opsit en sy oor hard draai !

The 12' is a 2-5oz rod (plus bait) it has a staged tip so it works in stages fast tip powerfull mif and bas that can dead lift 20kg.

The Carp rod is Koper's son's rod built to spec for a multiplier. His is 1-4oz (plus bait) and it throws therefor 5oz clean weigh no problem

I did the design on the blanks with Jan from Sensation and we built it thick walled and it is on the shelf in local tackle shops as the Rugged Extreme 3-5oz if you want to see the High reel seat spinning option.

It was designed originally to plug with 2-5oz Plus for GT with 30-80lbs Braid so it has more than enough power and works just fine with a Trini 20A so the 15/30 is not out of place on the rod

The top 40cm will work the 2-3oz lures the mid section comes into play with the 3-5oz and the Oval comes into play pulling a fish.

Best look for the Rugged Extreme 12' in the shop to get a feel of the action

It is Thick Walled with a mix of Modulus graphites to increase hoop strength and make it robust for the treatment provided by RSA Anglers

This is my contribution to the thread!

My 13ft Enigma oval is my No 1 go to rod these days for all my Eds fishing.

Got this Black Mussel Cracker on my Enigma 13ft Oval, TOR20 and 0.40mm Big Game Blue.

I had this fella go through all the reefs at Nahoon in EL and the rod had everything I needed to pull him through the ruff.

I easily cast a 7oz (Bait and Sinker) with this setup.
