I'm still trying to source a chap to do practicals with, I've chatted to a few guys and i've been told to go through Terrance Tub at Durban Ski boat club. He charges R1800.
The only problem i have is if he does the surf launche at Blue lagoon, its not registered as an approved launch site according to Paul Foder. Paul also say, he does not see how the guys can do it at grannies pool in umhlanga either, because of the small turning area.
Any suggestions on who i should do the practicals with

In my opinion it does not matter where you launch the examiner must be able to tell if you confident when you launch at that site! If you rule out gannys pool then rule out shelly beach and rocky bay and then you better rule out sodwana bay!!Yes blue lagoon is not a registered launch site but it has a surf zone and is good for training, If terrance sais he can do it from there then he must of got the ok to do it.
I have also come under fire for training from Pennington cause its a bad launch and rescue is not close. Well I know the launch so would rather launch there than gannys pool for example.

With all the issues I've had up to now with regards to my ticket, I would still recommend old LEMON.
Regardless of what went down the last 2 weeks, post practical with you and your old man, I would still recommend you. Your helpfull, understanding and an excellent advisor. would use your services any day in the future.

Lol, lemon it looks like i'm being swayed in your direction mate. I'm from Durban, so penningtons a bit far for me, considering that you need to do it over 3 - days (Something like that). In my current situation cost is also a major factor and Terrance comes in at R1800 for the surf launches and 25hrs logged sea time.
I passed my theory (86%) and am super stoked, i'm so keen to get going with the practicals now

Micheal, myself and mantaray logged the hours and launches on our own accord with the guidance of a qaulified skipper when going out fishing (killing 2 birds with 1 stone) once we logged the launches over a few weekends and some nice fish in the hatch, we approached Lemon to do the final practical launch/exam. That was done on one Sat morning out at Pennington. You'll save yourself a whole lot of cash doing it this way. Give me a call and join us for some fishing.

How do I go about in "upgrading" my CAT E to Cat C ??
Or do I need to do everything all over again?
I'm currently only launching from a Jetski... But Mayne I should do the complete ski boat skippers... As I might buy a boat in say 10 years time
Any advise?

Hi Guys
I know this is a old post but i am sure there is still questions remaining for some and for the newbies like me.
I did my my practical hours (25) with a qualified Cat C skipper on a ski boat.And did the skippers ticket Cat C as per ski boat.
However I did my surf launches on the jet ski. So I am allowed to skipper a ski boat and the jet ski but only have a surf launch endorsement for the jet ski. if i would want to upgrade To a ski boat i will only have to do the surf launches again.
I did my surf launches With the codfather Mick Clarke From umkomaas and did my surf launch practical from there as well. With a a really great guy Ronnie Windsor. very knowlegable and helpfull. Also did my skippers course with him.He will even get a boat to do your practical from if needed. And he organised everything for me to write the exam with another examiner. as per regulation.
