Hi Guys

Do anyone have some tips especially for bass fishing in this area?

How are the river levels and the clarity of the water etc.

Hey, i was there about a month ago and there was some good fishing happening there.

Do yourself a favour, rent one of those rowing boats that they have there on the river edge and paddle to that big tree on the otherside of the river... Some BIG carp in that water (from what ive heard) and take your lures along for the bass.

I got back from another spot on the Vaal on sunday and they had opened the sluice gates so the water levels got very high and the stream was very strong. Hope its not the case when you go down and good luck with the fishing...

Hi eXtincT

Thanks, much appreciated, I was especially worried about the water levels. Will the fast flowing water be fish-able or am I going to struggle to keep my bait on the bottom?

I also thought of maybe renting a boat and will do that too.

Was the clarity good enough after they opened the sluices?

Your tip is winner, will report back.

Please inform me on any good baits/lures to use.

Not sure how the water levels will be now, but the water got damn dirty and fishing went completely dead.

I think you might have a good chance coz when we left sunday morning the water levels started to drop slowly. Lets just hope they dont open the sluice gates again for this weekend.

I have had HUGE success lately with the Banjo flavored floaties from supercast. With the water flowing (even when the gates arent open) you struggle to create a feed area. So for some reason the carp absolutely love the banjo floats. I left a post here just before I went on vacation asking about how to create a feed area if the water is flowing and nobody could give any advice, so i decided to experiment and as a result floaties worked best. Didnt land huge fish, but every fish we got was between the 2,5kg-5kg range.

Rals,

Myself and a mate climbed off at the small stone bridge and waded through the shallows (water strength and depth dependent) all the way to the resort banks.

We were fly fishing though. You can access some awesome areas for bass that are hardly fished. We caught a few yellows on fly, but am sure you will find bass under the trees and bushes on route.

Put a few bass lures in a waterproof plastic packet and tie to your belt. You might get wet but the little excursion is well worth it. A small car tube will also work well.

Besides cooling off and having a jol you probably get into some nice fish.....

I will try find the bridge and see how the water levels are to wade through, we will try the flies also!

I will report duly!

You have to drive over the bridge about half a click before you enter Wawiel. Its a 1 car only blokkies bridge(if that makes sense). You cant miss it....
