Plain.

Well, still, how are you saving? Cause if u order by yourself your total price is less, therefore your shipping cost is less.

I dont get how u dont understand this.

If u order $100 of gear...with the shipping costing 45%...u pay $45 for shipping. U gana pay $45 for shipping (on your $100 order) even if u order with 10 people ordering a total of $2000 worth of goods, because they pay their 45% of their orders. Therefore u will pay 45% no matter how big the order is... so u can't save cash like that.

IF shipping was $200 no matter what the price of the order was, THEN if u go in with 10 people u all pay one 10th of the shipping and u save a lot. Cause u can make a small order or a big order and still pay $20 because the shipping is set at $200.

Am i explaining this wrong or am i missing something here???

Cause i see no-way u can save money on shipping when the shipping is calculated by the 45% of the order...

Ok lemme try and explain:

When you (alone) order something small, say $100 US, the shipping for that might be $45 US, bringing it to 45% of the purchase, now if you (10 guys) each orders something of say $100 US the shipping might be $100 US which now brings the total shipping costs (the 45% factor) down to a mere 10% of the entire order, the bigger the order the less % you should pay.  Bear in mind that there are set rates for shipping, certain sized items, hence if you can pack ten reels into one box instead of sending ten reels individually packed then you'll save money.

This is my understanding anyhows, but I might be mising the point entirely.  Haven't ever imported stuff so I might be completely off the track, but perhaps not?

You are totally correct. "IF" the shipping charges are calculated at a percentage rather then a fixed rate ,then you will not save on shipping doesn't matter if you purchase for $40 or $4000.The % factor plays a huge role.

I sent all three sites a email asking to confirm if the shipping is at 45% of total purchase price.

The only reason I can think of the 45% shipping charge is to cater shipping via a courier company like FEDEX or the likes, but what if they can send the parcel via normal postal service? Surely, they cannot charge the same as the postal service is much cheaper.

As soon as I get clarity from the 3 online stores I will post a update!

FINALLY!! hahaha!!

I registered for Bass Pro Shops online store, and put some items in the basket and went through the checkout, and it told me the shipping is calculated on 45% the total order, NOT a set shipping price.

I would love to order from them too if we could organise a set shipping fee and we all spilt that. (somehow??)

BUT if we can't get a SET shipping fee, its not gana work.

HOPE can can organise it!! Theres some good stuff at the store!!

Bass Pro Shops calculate shipping by 45% of the total order...

The % never changes.

Thats why its screwing the whole team order thing over.

Maybe we can find a different Int. online store with a fixed shipping charge to RSA.

This is only BPS i am talking about here.

Hi Guys,

Ordering in bulk is what creates the saving. Shipping fees normally drop relative to increasing value of goods. Bass Pro Shops was the proverbial drol in die drinkwater - I don't know other dealers that charge a fixed fee - this is ridiculous! ':swear' On a $2000 order we'd be paying $900 shipping??? No way - I could send an African bull elephant to Pakistan for $900!!!

Forget about % for now - the above figures were just used as an example. Shipping costs vary tremendously depending on weight, volume, length, type of goods (hazardous/non-hazardous) and shipping companies.

Normal Intenational Air Freight is the cheapest, but you take your chances. You wait 2 weeks and if it gets lost or stolen, it's gone. Fedex charges about 4x IAF, but your goods arrive within the week at your back door.

My record was an order placed in Hong Kong ( www.cyberheli.com ) on Tuesday morning, which stopped in my driveway on Thursday afternoon - that's Fedex for you!

Hope this helps.

Mike

btw, we need to change your nick to MathsMasterPro :SSS

Ok guys. Good news. The shipping is going to be much cheaper on the above mentioned site. For example, I placed a dummy order on basspro for $263 and shipping @ 45% = total $381.35.

I placed a dummy order on tacklewarehouse for the same order amount and the shipping was calculated @ $58 = Total $321.

The more you order on tacklewarehouse the shipping increases slighly but still way cheaper then the 45% of basspro.

Guys do various dummy orders and see the shipping charges. If we order bulk the shipping is going to be much cheaper then ordering from basspro. We just need to compare item prices.

Quick test on www.tacklewarehouse.com, for a $735 order the shipping (FedEx International Express - 3-5 business days) = $114, and on a $1460, shipping = $158,
So for the larger orders it works out to about 10%

Havent read all the post so might be duplicating.

You dont really save money from Basspro, the only advantage is you can get lures and various items you cant get here.

A friend of mine orders from bass pro, gets it delivered to a friend in Canada who then sends it to him, this lets him bypasses the stupid 45% rule as it is no longer an international order and saves lots of cash in the process.

There are no duties on fishing equipment (except clothing) but you will be charged VAT at customs.
