my name is Louis and i have been on this forum for quite some time and never made any posts due to not really having any stories to tell. For the first time I have one and I wish to share it with everyone that enjoys fishing like I do.
It was last week Tuesday that i had to go the doctor, as luck would have it this time of year i was vrot with flu. Got booked off for the rest of the week which is nice and actually a well deserved rest. When you are permanently thrown with projects and stuff you don't get a chance to rest. but back to the story, as I walked out the doctors office and getting my meds and all that i got into the car and told my fiance to start packing my stuff when we get home, very confused and tears in her eyes, she thought i was leaving her. i started laughing and told her not to be stupid and said i meant my camping gear, i am going fishing for the rest of the week until sunday. She started shouting at me and told me i must never scare her like that again bla bla bla.. just shrugged it of and she came a long for the trip.
We decided to go to Hengelaars Vriend because it is just 7km away and i need a cabin because i am already sick as it is. on the way there i stopped at the spar just outside the entrance to get wood, meat etc etc etc. i spotted a tackleshop right there and decided to check it out. Got my self another cheap rod and real and some floats and peanut feed. From there i went to the resort and sorted my self out with a cabin for the stay. paying R750 a night i hoped that the cabin came with an open bar as well (no luck there)
after unpacking and setting up my rods and getting the rigs on, i made my first cast in about 5 years of no fishing. it was very quiet during the day with only nips on the line. i decided to wait until the sun starts to set before i will cast in again. now i also went and changed to floats that people say never worked for them. i went on to Sugar Floats. it wasn't even 5 minutes and my first line started to scream like a rabbit being eaten by a snake (if you ever heard that sound you will know what it is like). being all excited i kapped the line so hard i almost went and sat on my arse. Anyway, I proceeded to reel the bad boy in feeling that it wasn't a very big one. it went very well all evening, catching 7 common Karps in total for the first night.
the next night i totaled out at 14 because my fiance wanted to go to bed. she caught 4 her self as well. As my sugar floats started getting very little i decided to go over to Bright banana and Red Banana Cream and Honey Floats. to my surprise these actually went really well for me and i caught another 8 for that day. this went on until saturday night coz sunday i am going home again and back to work.
all in all i caught about 59 karps. i would say that is a successful catch for 4 nights of fishing.
Karps weighed in between 800grams - 4.2Kg.
i was at stand 39 (very uncomfortable when having 12ft rods due to willow tree right behind you.)
bait used.
Sugar Floats, Banana, Banjo, Honey, Bright Banana, Red Banana Cream, Caramel and my peanut feed for Bol.
Times fish were caught most.
between 6PM and 3AM every day.
nothing during the day
i used 4.5kg line.
During the day i tried to fish at 20 - 30 meters.
at night 60 - 80 meters.
i don't have any fancy and expensive stuff so i have cheap ones.
