Hi all just a warning as from 14 Nov 2013 night fishing between 20:00 and 5:00 is banned on the breede river.
I just hope everybody coming down for Dec is aware of this fact.
No other river in SA does this ban apply WHY only in the breede???

Banned because of excessive bag limits of Kob caught at night on Rapala lure I think! :kaykak

This is only from boats that i know of or only in the breede river.
But all fishing with rapalas has been banned a while ago.

A few spoiling it for everyone else. I think Mike is correct as to why the ban in in place. I do most of my fishing from my boat at night. Rivers are quieter, no boat movement, catch more, just prefer it. So much for the Breede. (This will have an effect on the economy there going forward, expect their holiday makers' numbers to drop.)

I am not convinced the visitor numbers will drop. There was a prediction of doom and gloom for small seaside resorts when the beach vehicle ban came into being and that never happened. We'll wait and see. There still seem to be stacks of rock and surf anglers around.

My view is that in most families with a fishing boat there are a couple of fisherman (usually the dad and sons) and then the beach-goers/swimmers (usually the mom and daughters). Yes, I acknowledge these are stereotypes, but this is the trend. So, if the Breede is your favourite holiday area, its not just the fishermen that have a say!

You also say the river is much quieter at night- this suggests very few people fish at night anyway. So I can't see how this would affect the area economically.

Having said that, I do think its sad that a bunch idiots out there can spoil it for the rest.

Ah well the wives and girl friends will be happy with that one.

The guys will be home earlier and there will be a few less Cob to clean

Guys can do the cooking get the dishes done pack them away take out two bottles of brandy and have an early nite of dopping.

I do that anyway when I am in Kenton- no need to institute a ban to get me off the river in time for the braai and a few beers. I will even wash my plate.

What a pathetic excuse of a rule. Banning the trolling of rapalas in the breede was the things to do. That was the thing that took out all the kob!! Not night fishing. I know this because i fish the river alot! This will only result in more people keeping there 5 fish per man when it comes to grunter. I promise you this will happen. So in over dec at least 100 fishermen per day will take out 500 grunters.

IF THIS BAN STICKS I PROMISE YOU GUYS THERE WILL BE NO GRUNTER LEFT IN THE BREEDE VERY VERY SOON, JUST LIKE THE STEENBRAS!

I dont know which tree huggers came up with this ban, but it does not make sense! Rather ban Cob fishing in PE and surrounds where most of the breeding stock kob are caught in South Africa. Yes that will also be insane.

Just my 2c

This has been on the cards since 2011. The fact is that it should never have gotten to this point in the first place, but it did and here we are. You may be onto something regarding the Grunter.

I know man... Ive also heard the rumours but thougt the people will fisght for this one, Im gutted, cant believe they took this away. As for the grunter, more people will fish during day, more grunters will be kept for the braai because less kob will be caught. Sad state of affairs
