Hi All I recently saw these freshwater crayfish

lol, the Australians can be a weird lot, calling a little thing like that a Yabbie...I'd like to see one in real life though...

Apparently they farmed them in Swaziland and a couple got loose and there are quite a lot in the sand river dam.

I used to work on the farm next door to the "Marron" farm.(originally just outside Klapmuts)

These poor buggers tend to die at the blink of an eye and with all the red tape James had to go through with Nature conservation to farm with them, there is no way they are getting into any eco systems or sold into petshops.

Saw them in Newzealand when working in a resaurant carfull of the pinchers will take your finger off. Pretty damn tasy though must say.

What will make these a problem when they get out ? Seems they could make nice fish bait. All fish amongst other animals eat fish eggs.

They are invasive and hardy. they out perform other neturally occuring species.

They are commonly used as bait in the states. most creature baits are based on them...

The only legal way to get them is to find them in a dam and catch them.

If a pet store is selling them, it's most probably illegal.
