Hey chaps. Im busy with my still at the moment. Who done it and enjoyed it. Also has anyone got a copper still they willing to part with

I have experience with fermenting sugar wash for mampoer, I have never used fruit before.

You need a reflux distil if you want the strong stuff.

hey on 5kg of fruit add 2kg white sugar and 1kg brown sugar and 1 packet of normal yeast just to get it started let it ferment through a bubler until it stops bubbling then sieve out all the solids and just destil the juice that is left but be ware it is potent he more sugar you add the stronger the mix and after you distilled it just put is through the distill again to make it stronger i have made it to 86 percent on a alcohol meter
good luck:cens

Hi

I might not have any experience in making the stuff but if you need someone to taste the end product I am always up for a challenge.

Why not do it yourself? Forming and silver soldering copper is quite fun..Just get a mate to help you solder if you are inexperienced like me! Use a thick SS stock pot boiler and make a copper column to strip your nasties..

www.homedistillers.org I think that was the site there that had all the good info..

It is legal as long as you dont sell it. Thanx for the info guys i just made a prickly pear brandy its aging with some oak chips as we speak. My big mission at the moment is to find a lekker stook. Mine was stolen in a looting. It broke my heart as it was the real deal. Anyways. Ill post some pics of my new still but i dont really think its the right one for me.

Know when to make your cuts, still twice at least, use enough copper in your pot or column to strip your nasties, don't use lead solder or brass anywhere, Don't overheat your mash and keep solids out of your boiler. Bottle with charred oak sticks and remember that drinking too much commercial liquor gives you cancer, enjoy and savour what you have your hands on. It shouldn't taste nice, but should taste like a slice of heaven with a few blocks of ice!

Do yourself a favour and watch moonshiners on DSTV chanel 121. The first 500ml or so of your run is ethanol, the guys on moonshiners always throw that away and then bottle the rest. Make 100% sure that you dont have any leaks as the vapour is explosive

I have been looking into this for about 2 years.
$$ I am not yet willing to spend or justify spending.

But yeah....would LOVE a reflux stil.

My mate found an old copper geyser in Hermanus. Bugger is well on his way to some homemade rum.

Correction, it's Acetone among some other nasties. It's the ethanol you want, so don't through that away, lol.

100% correct, i meant methanol.
