Gents
Have just come back from my 9 day Henties trip. Tired tired and tired.
Well, brought back 45 fish in total between 4 fisherman. Not that good, but taking into perspective that we met people that caught 6 size fish in 2 weeks......!! Some people had better luck catching fish of 6- 12kg's
The fist 4 days the water was crappy. Surge would dump 6 ounce sinkers on the beach and "grapple" sinkers would toss and turn and tangle everything. We caught 4 fish (3 steenbras and 1 Cob).
We then decide to use a "Gillie". This Wambo, Kato, actually caught a 27kg Cob in December, using mussel and a 2\0 hook.....!!!!
Things started looking better and some days we caught between 50 and a hundred small cob, but alas all less than 40cm. The bait would never lie still enough for bigger fish to latch on. even using 6\0 and whole pilchard would not deter them!
I caught about 6 or 7 50 - 55cm cobs, with the biggest being 80cm - using 2\0 hook and white mussel (SA).
Galjoen was scarce, small ones attacking the bait at every opportunity. We eventually ended up with 9 size ones.
So for us novices in Henties, I think we did well. Next time we will use a "gillie" from day one, and if Kato is available, we'll use him for sure!!!!
