Help with jigging rod !!!!!

Ive just come back from Mitsios and Caster Bank and am looking for a heavy jigging rod. We got smoked with 80lb tackle and want something to use with 80-150lb braid. whats the Blue rose like as its available locally and does anyone do the Black hole range in SA. Thanks

I have the rod for you buddy. A Smith Ltd 400 gram. It is brand new and unused. Will part with it for R3500. Let me know if interested. Can post some pics later. Ask anyone in the jigging circles, this is a beast of a rod.

Jigging Master 3 King Special H is what you are after mate... absolutely incredible rod, with more stopping power than you'll ever need.... incredibly comfortable to fish, with nice parabolic action, which is more forgiving on you, but brutal on the fish... You can check them out here:

Definitely the SMith! the charters in Madagascar swear by them! thats a very good price too!

i fished Mitsio with a JM Powerspell, no problems there, whatever you do, dont buy the off the rack rods like Shimano etc. you are looking for specialised jigging kit like Smith, JM, Black hole etc.

You can bring in the black hole rods yourself, quite cost effective, but get someone to share the shipping cost with you, 3-4 rods fit in a rod tube.

Not sure what weight stick vis blik is looking for, but if he's looking for a PE 6 to 8 rod, that Smith is an amazing rod, and thats a great price!!

Vis Blik are you looking at an overhead or spinning rod?

What sort of reel are you looking at using?

If you can answer a couple of those questions for us, that'll help point you in the right direction? Depending on your what weight class you wanna push, and how hard you wanna pull, we can try help point ya in the right direction...

Correct, a fantastic rod. Will pull the heads off big Amberjacks!

BTW, some time ago we had a chat about putting my baits into production... It has begun. The first will be a moulded stick bait (no other way to make it) and will be in full production by the end of January.

if i had the cash i wouldnt have had a second thought about that rod. Anyhow, my black hole on the way so cant complain.
the right reel for that rod most definitely saltiga expedition 6500.

Thanks all. I am currently using Tallica 25 with 80lb Powerpro but would like to go to 150 lb. the reel was awesome (40lb drag) + 675m line cap as we hooked plenty marlin on live bonnies looking for doggies. Also found the 80 lb powerpro could not take the constant wear of multiple daily hookups Jigging and livebaiting even though I stripped off 50 m daily still had line failure too often. PS they have an amazing braid to 200lb mono platt which held every time

Saw this thread late, but thought I would add my '2 cents' worth so to speak...

Another rod worth considering is the Smith WRC 55 Nirai - very light, andd got some awesome power to boot - I have one which I enjoyed using in Mada, and I know its a favourite of Ludo, one of the Tropical Fishing skippers..

Hope it goes well...I always preferred a popper rod for the billfish, but it's a personal thing I suppose..

Visblik - If you are looking to fish your Talica 25 on the jigging Stick you are after, my recommendation would be the Jigging Master 3 Kings Special Heavy Model.... as a heavy Jigging and Livebaiting outfit, this simply cannot be beaten in my opinion....
