help needed on rod selection

Hi all,

I've been using my 110h with Daiwa 30sha for galjoen when the sea is rough and strong winds are blowing, as it's nice and light and can handle a 4- 5oz sinker to anchor the bait and you also get blown around a helluva lot less with a light rod, but the rods tip is not sensitive enough for my liking and has caused me to miss a lot of fish.

My old Daiwa 12'6 and policanski work fine in normal conditions, so the new rod will only be used in the extreme conditions I've described. went down to Fishing Specialist yesterday but the lighter rods there all seem to be quoted as 2 to 3 0z and seem to be very stiff.

What i'm after is something in the 10 to 11ft range that can handle a 2 to 4 0z sinker, with a sensitive tip, that's light and will balance with the Daiwa 30. Far casting is not an issue as max will be about 50m.

Can anyone help? All input will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Rofflign

I know u said u want a 10-11ft but have u looked at the 1224 Exage , the light & med tips are fairly sensetive and the heavy is not bad either to throw up to a 4oz.my 2c

yup, I looked at the 1224 looks like a nice rod but still a bit to heavy for what I have in mind, saw the exage 100m which looks pretty good, anyone have one of these?

I bought a Berkley air extra heavy spinning rod with a shimano coffee grinder. It's super light and sensitive, but will cast up to a 3 ounce. I thoroughly enjoy this rod.
Hooked into a monster zebra fish in the Transkei, and it was fantastic fun.

I've cauht my gallie with one of these old brown galjoen stokkeis (about 10/11ft). They've got nice "slap" tips and i've cast a 5oz sinker with it so that the rough water dont wash it around. you'l get these "stokkies" cheap at second hand shops and is not as fragile as the hmg rods on the rocks. I've got two oldies today that im gonna redo totaly to my liking. new tips and all.

Hi Rofflign I got a adrenaline 12ft for my misses. It can throw a 5 ounce and is really sensitive for such a cheap rod

Another nice 12 footer is the Blue Marlin G3, Roff. My 14 yr old son uses this combo exclusively - the SL30SH and the G3 12 ft. Beaut combo. And if you want to wip it far, it has that 100m capablity too... Also good value.

Hi Rofflign

The Exage 1468....is it a good rod? Also, is it a 2 piece and how much will it go for?

Hey Roff,
Try the Elbe 12 ft, it comes with a light and medium tip, and retails for about R500, With the light tip it is quite sensative, and also come with a trigger grip. More than capable of handling a decent size fish !

Thanks BM

Think I need to look at other brands first b4 I make up my mind. Still not sure what my ideal rod is. Was opting for a 2 or maybe even 3 piece.
