@spin a holic... nice fish well done...

i am starting to love the spinning jigging side of angling!
thanks and thanks to all the thumbs up from the other sealiners. lure fishing is just the most exciting fishing one can do and i find ive learnt the most from this side of angling than from any other i have done. you seem to learn something new every day about fish feeding patterns.

@spin a holic...thanks...

maybe you could advise...

we are getting regular 4-6kg cob off the kayaks just behind the breakwater. we get em on white pearl 7inch flukes yeah nice!... but the buggers refuse to take dead baits-pilchard, now i want to target them from about 80-100m off the surf (nice 30m wade included) is this possible?

any ideas on what set up i could employ or invest in?

if you're fishing of the side I would use a 9ft rod that can throw upto 2 oz. Would use 1.5 oz heads and a 7inch mcarthy or a bucktail leadhead and a 4000 to 6000 size reel and 20lbs braid. Should do the trick. Where you fishing and how does the formation look.

spin a holic...

thanks for the help. gonna look at the different setups available at the local tackle stores.

this particular spot is at ganzekraal on the west coast.
it has a shore rock formation perpendicular to the shoreline and runs out about 40m or so and then forms / becomes a channel that joins the main system of reefs and deep water channels. to the right of the formation it is open sand plates and sand banks and mussel banks.

from kayaking the area i know that the channels are easily 14 -16m meter deep. lots of good fish around here. the fish chase glassies to the shore rock and feed on them. they also corner them in other zones of this resort.

its not easy to fish off the kayak to close to the breakwater and you constantly keep a watchful eye on the swell and breakwater.

thanks for your input.

Nice fish there E. Just a pity These Mc Carthy lures are so scares. The Sports shop in Table View never seems to have stock and the guy round the corner where I normally buy all my tackle from can't stock it. Some politics apparently from the BIG GUNS trying to control the industry and artificially inflate the prices. Making you and me pay through our noses.

This means I have to travel 7 days on horseback to the next BIG supplier if I want the best lures around. Well I've made up my mind, from now I'll support the guys that supports me. If that means I have to go without Mc Carthy, I'm sure I'll find something that works better for cheaper. And when I get, i'll tell the world. And the company that is trying to kill the little man, you know who you are, or should I name you, better start to think differently.

Oomfaan, I agree with you. Here in PE its the same. All tackle shops out of stock or dont have the colour or size you are looking for. Then when you ask when the stock will be in they either cant answer you or three - four weeks. By then the fish have died of old age.

I did manage this fish a while back on a 5 inch Mcarthy Fluke Orca colour.

I had a chat with Stu from Mcarthy the other day about this problem. I think he is as frustrated as we are with the wholesalers. (They call the shots). The specific compeny he deals with is not interested to deal with the little tackle shops. And the big guns could not care less about you and your needs. They just want to make as much money out of you as they can. I hope we here as a group of serious anglers can stand together and get these people to change their mindset.

Some descent fish you've got there.

Interesting, last year I caught most of my cob on a 4 " jerk minnow baby elf. This year they seem to swim past them and only take the 5" or bigger. Must have something to do with the size of the bait-fish the feed on.
