having recently  started dropshotting again i noticed the price of berkly products seem to increase everytime you purchase a packet but i have found  Mcarthy lures which are far cheaper than berkly i have read on their site that they are made for sa waters, has anyone put them to test...

pics would be great:fishn

They rate among the market leaders, if not the local market leader here in SA. Berkley do have a winner in their "GULP!" formula, but the McCarthy's will also absorb the gulp juice, which you can buy separate in some shops, or just pop them into the empty gulp packets....they will still pick up some of that scent.

Now if McCarty will only produce a realistic "mud-prawn" imitation....nudge, nudge, wink, wink!

Personally I love the McCarthy range - caught lots of Kob on their chartruse minnows here in the Eastern Cape. PB 72 cm's so far....

Speak to Reefman. He is a fan.

I unfortunately haven't caught anything on drop shot yet. I think i am too impatient.

The Mcarthy Goldfish has become as legendary as the Gulp Camo worm for being a consistently successful lure. Mark de la Hey has caught some unbelievable fish on the Goldfish minnow. There are many others as well.

thanks reefman

what are the good ones to buy, well the color lures that are effective and do they still work although they are nt scented, lots of posts suggest you dip them in berkley sauce then that would be pointless if you buying mcarthy....:ssswim:

just wish Mcarthy made the paddle tail in 4 inch - those paddle tails from Storm has some serious action.

Personally like the Sprats in 4 inch and 5inch, lots of tail action in them

I do use the others, it's just a personal thing

colours
if I had to choose only 2
- it would be goldfish and olive

but I like the whole range ...

smell is overrated, if you want to add, leave them in the berkley sauce

remember when a fish is in feeding mode the last thing on his mind is to give it a smell and a lick, it's to attack.

a fish will however reject a bait quicker if it is not scented.

Have fun, THEY ARE GOOD ... fish them with patience and confidence, what you put in you will eventually get out.

And remember you see them catch 3 of 4 fish on TV in 20 min, but it took them the whole day to film it !

Stuart Mcarthy gave me some for testing a while back and I can say I was very impressed with them, they have a good feel for the fish to hold on, they move well, the colours are superb and they are fairly durable. They are really well priced and good value for money.

Not only do they work for Saltwater Species, but they are Deadly for Tiger Fish also and I have even caught Bass on them.

As far as scent goes, I do not care to much for it do not really see that it makes a difference. I think that the movement is everything. I thinks the smell thingy is more a gimmick and although it may have advantages for slow fishing, drop shot works best when fished fast and then the scent does not help. My opinion.

I've spent quite a bit of cash on the Berkley tails and have had very limited success.  McArthy on the other hand has been a winner with me.  The 4" Black & clear one - Orca I think - has got me most of my fish.  Have also heard that the goldfish is deadly - got a few the other day and going to give them a go soon.

Have been desperately trying for leery on dropshot...  one day.. one day...
