heard a few guys use these for jigging. they look plenty strong. be sure to give the guys at 'reel repairs' in jhb a call. they are the penn service agents & also bring in 'open box' penn reels from the states which they sell at great prices. awhile back they had these at aroung 2k. good luck

nothing wrong with the torques Bennie its a great reel, and at that price you cant go wrong.
these are versatile reels but not specialist jigging reels. For jigging, the handles are too short and reel weight is against it being a thoroughbred. The Torques are strong reels with great drag perfomance and will do the job if that's what you currently own. But the bar is lifted due to the arrival of specialist jig reels such as the Gorilla 12C and the usual suspects in Jigging Master PE4&5, Ocea Jiggers & Saltigas.

Now that you mension it, they are quite heavy. No point getting a bargain and it's not quite what I want. Here are a few comparisons:

Do you not think the Saltiga is a heavy surf reel / light boat / jigging reel, similar to the Trinnies?
The Penn Torque, Alutecnos Gorilla, even Omoto Zorro, are good for jigging and / or trawling, better suited the boating environment ?

I am looking for something specifically for jigging!
Considering weight, power, speed, line capacity I really think the Saltiga is the business.

I can vouch for the guys at Real Repairs, Greg and Arthur - I have done business with them twice and will definitely again. The open box specials are just that - SPECIAL! some very good deals to be had there backed by some very prompt and helpful service. From now on it's PENN all the way for me.

I suspect the Saltigas that Chris refers to are again the specialist jigging Saltigas none of which are available in S.A. outlets to my knowlege. Exactly which Saltiga model Bennie ?
