All involved here were fishing on the boat at Kei this past weekend. my brother was fishing on John Rance's (Border Environmental officer) boat and they were basically harrasing them. I guess they think the Rances were behind the bust. Surely the skipper should be banned from fishing whist under investigation and awaiting sentancing.

Some guys never learn. I met a guy in Phalabora once. My army buddy and I were there for a parade and we bumped into his cousin standing at his car outside the court. He was out on bail for poaching and going into court in 15 minutes but he had a frsh kill in the boot of his car from earlier that morning. Confiscate the boat, period. Habitual offenders. Just my 2c.

Ag what the hell, let me make a few "enemies" today, after all it is Friday and I have a tendancy to swim upstream ...

Don't know the people, never seen them, never heard of them.

But (there is always a but)

How much of a penalty is enough ?
I read the fine of R 8000 isn't enough, hell that's alot of money in my opinion (and is based on the amount of fish, not just thumbsucked hey)
Then there's tackle should be confiscated, why oh why, he already got fined for his actions, why confiscate his tackle/boat.

Exactly how many fish did he catch ? I know the Red Steenbras are under severe pressure and GOOD FINES are in order, but the 74 should have been removed from that list LONG TIME AGO.

Believe It should have been prohibited, then recreational only and then after the numbers ARE WAAY UP open for Commercial exploitation again.

I really really hope than nobody on this forum is a judge ! I don't think the government would have storage place for all the confiscated items.

Penalty should = the crime people.

If I ride 60 in a 80 zone should I get a R 10 000 fine and maybe a 1 year jail sentence and maybe even have my car confiscated ?
What about if my blood alcohol level is .06 instead of .05 ?

I'm not saying go soft on "crime" (like catching more fish than what's allowed), but I'm saying atleast be realistic.

Honestly, most people will scream catch and release and then quietly load there catch into a plastic bag !

R 8000 is NOT A SMALL FINE, it's ALOT OF MONEY.
Did you know you only allowed 10 Strepies, 4 Elf, 50 sandprawn, 50 mudprawn, PER DAY, whether you eat them or use them for bait.
LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, very very few people keep to those limits.

Not saying it's right, but in theory if I have 70 mudprawns in my possession (how many people count the amount they pull) I should have my car or my tackle confiscated.

Really people, be realistic

I am a bid late on this one but want to be supporting you !

One only have to visit any wholesale fish dealer and notice all the under size fish for sale. As these fish are from large trawlers .I presume that its fine for them to load under size fish for the fish markets. May be because they are big and powerful . They can be left alone to do what they want and when they want.

Guess who is in the news again?
This guy seems to be involved in a lot more than just exceeding his bag limits.
