The other afternoon (29/12) i went to Umhlanga straight after work. There were more than the normal tally of fisherman.

So i set down my gear where i always fish but there was a fisherman fishing my spot, after bout half hour after i  arrived, his rod started knocking. He was on with something big. It took him left then right and after bout 10 mins he landed what many thought was a shark or skate. Actually it turned out to be a monster shad which weighed in at 8kgs.

It was one great and beautiful catch.

I would love to catch a shad that size! I heard of a shad that came out at Gourits of 9kg and I saw the pic, And in Danabaai they caught a 9kg Leeri / Garrick.

Some day Im going to get mine!!!

Monster Shad are few and far between these days. The Yanks catch this size with regularity. It's sad we don't get more like this.

We still get them here from time to time, this one was 7.5kg caught by a friend of my duck

Well done to the angler! Grunter hunter, where exactly is your spot in uMhlanga?  I normally fish at the Ohlange mouth a short distance away from Breakers.

31 pounds 12 ounces - about 14kg or thereabouts.
