Ja If I go I'm gonna get there at arounf 7.30pm or so and fish the night.I hope the east blows the the helling during the day and calms down a little at night so we can at least get some distances on our casts and then we slide whole makkies. ^^..

Okay so went on Saturday Night. Put out 2 makkies. The Easterly was blowing fairly hard when I was fishing and I thought this was going to deter the smaller ones from taking my bait. But it didn't work out like that unfortunately. Had no takers but did have fun though. It was the first day of east after so many days of west I cant even count. Cant wait for summer then the big boys are gonna come out.

Freshwater is a very good spot . Duck pond can be a bid dangerous ,if fishing alone .

Yes I was last there in May this year. I stayed in that Rondavel, the first time in Oct 1975. Then it was still under municipal control I think .We was there for a ski boat competition, between Kei Mouth and Gonubie club.

Just as a matter of interest, how times and areas change. The ski boat launch site was, the bay in front of Whisperings waves (to the left if you face the see) now there is almost no beach left .

Ja most people underestimate the power of the waves and get hurt. It's has happend to me before I was trying to free my line that was hooked on a rock and before I knew it the wave was on top of me,I just sat down and it rolled me.Not worth the risk.

Ja went to gonub point today and the east was blowing nicely aswell. Got given a small grey to chop by another oak and over the course of the next 6 hours put out three mackeral on slide. But then as I was reeling in my sinker I had an on couldn't tell what it was because it just felt like dead weight but I saw it break the water about 20m out and then I lost it 10m infort on the rocks(Line snapped from me pulling too hard) DAMM I was upset. My first flatfish gone...

I think it was a flatfish because every time after i had finished reeling it sat on the bottom, then I had to lift it off etc.

You guys think it was a flatfish or not?

Okay guys so decided to go out for a little non-ed fishing at Gonubie point and damn was it lekka thick with pulls and raggies. So firstly just to test the water I slide out half a makkie and within 45 minutes it was stripped and I then moved to my hound fillets that I had and all three of us then proceeded to slide out like lekka bite sized 500 gram hound fillets. and we sat and waited it was about 11pm and my reel went screaming like hell and I then picked it up and damn it was another little Grey and proceed to bring him in but he came towards me and gave me slack line and as a result we lost him ,damn .The hound fillet that i put on was so tough and secured to the hook, even after the grey had had a taste of it,so the bait was in good condition and I slide it back out. Then there was little action until about 00:30am and then we no me heard my reel going zzz zzz zzz I knew that the raggies should be coming out thick about now since it the outgoing tide and so I let him chew and then picked up the rod and could feel that he was on for sure then since I was using a circle hook (19/0 Eagle Claw) I tightened up on the drag and the battle began I could feel that he was a boss fish and this was obviously evident because 15 seconds later he broke my 0.9mm (44kg) T-line leader like it was nothing.Damn 15 seconds on then off.So I then rigged up another setup trace ect leader ect. But by 1:30 am I reeled in and that was it for me.The story of my shark fishing life so far is that out of everybody I am the first to get a pickup and get the most pickup but loose so many fish. Then as we were packing up the oaks to the right of the slipway got a pickup so we went to them and checked out the action this time he was on for good and it was for sure not a raggie or a grey because it was just sitting and then taking line in slow short bursts and then sitting ,anyway to cut it short we were just looking at this oak fighting this fish and having a lekka chat when we noticed that one my friends rods was going and so we ran back and he picked it up and was on vas .He didn't make it easy on himself by using a 0.45mm 13.6kg mainline with like 18Kg leader and a "OLD" penn jigmaster 500 reel.so we hooked it around 1:45am and then about after 30 minutes his reel broke and as a result we were working as a team to try and pull in his line by hand while he was pulling on it with his rod .His reel was completely stuffed and could not even turn one bit. This is a good example of why you should not go non-ed fishing with a ed reel.So at about 3:00am we had, as a team got the fish closer to the rocks and it was about 4-5m away from where we could gaff it and it was a raggie for sure we could see it through the water and basically the line gave way right at the very end and we lost it just off the rocks.Damn i felt sorry for the oak but then I've had my fair share of failures.I don't know if this is common but i'm new and having a lot of fish kooked but very few landed I think it's like 9 fish lost and 1 landed . Oh well here's a pic of the oaks penn 500 jigmaster.

Here's a pic of the other oaks on for about an hour after he first hooked it. Damn these oaks are stupid they are using 0.45mm 13.7 kg line and 25kg leader . He slide out a whole makkie and when we left He had been on for 90 minutes and not got back any line and was -100m on his reel from the beginning of the fight. With such lite tackle you cant boss the fish and you will look like this guy .He could have been there all day trying to land that fish.
