Galjoen Gurus

i have fished many, many times at Cape Point and Bakoven. I would say the most critical aspect of all attributes in catching a galjoen is the distance you cast. Take Bakoven, any cast over twenty meters and you are lucky to get a bite. You can still catch fish there in very clear water, provided you fish in the first 5 meter zone, sometimes in water no deeper than 30cm.

Cape Point is exactly the same, as long as you are in shallow water around a rock or reef (working water - even slightly) then you have a chance of catching. I have often been there when nobody else has caught a single fish ( we were there once when the two oceans aquarium guys were catching new specimenes for the tank), they were casting deep and got nothing, in a matter of twenty minutes we gave them four fish, all caught within 10 meters of the side. For galjoen - do not overcast!!

Anyone venture out today???
Would have loved to go but had to attend mother in-laws birthday lunch :?
Would love to hear what the CT boys caught (and where....not exactly, but nearest proximity will do)
Bait used would also be useful info.

Shites grootvis 100kts is a beast of a wind. Iv'e only experienced +- 70kts crossing the atlantic and that's already pushing towards praying time at sea.

I love using the barograph. every ship in my company has one on board. So much easier for me as its continues recording, and one can work out the barometric tendency witch helps a lot in getting an estimation of the wind (force) in the next couple of hours or days.

Thanx for the info on 1016...Ill give it a go.

So , to highlight something, Speartackle's and MikeSmiths'(galjoen frenzy) fish were caught on this baro reading! Coincidence!....;)

Hey guys....I tried fishing CP (Platboom) yesterday morning.
Got there early to get some fresh worm then fished a few holes on the incoming tide. Wind was pumping ESE and water was clear. NOTHING.....not even a knock. Then drove to Baileys Cottage...water looked very nice. Tried wonderworm and white mussel. Nothing. Packed up at 13h30.

Would love to know if anybody had any luck elsewhere yesterday.
