AF: from what i heard the worms are not allowed because of over fishing. The fishes love them, especially the females, which then get cooked along with their caviar. Hence the impact on reproduction of the fish population. But what i could not understand is the following. Namibia has a lot of commercial fishing vessels doing their huge share of damage to the fish stocks, and then there are surf fishermen that surely cannot have the same impact as a fishing trawler. Right? But hey, the inspector will not care about all the theories in the world. If you use a worm, even with zero fish in your cool box, you will still pay a fine. I think it is 1000 rand now. The locals still use the worms and don't give a toss, but everyone else with a worm on the hook either has a nail-clipper or a burning cigarette nearby. Just in case =)

thanks for the reply surely there should be a limit or time frame on the ban because their trip was years ago when i started high school almost 17 years now if i can sort of work it out as for the commercial impact over this time frame one can only imagine.

a couple of places where you can have a look at is at Macasar "aasbankies" (do not fish on your own). Be there at "spring laag". Wade out to the left of the "V"(wetsuit not a wader) as the tide comes in move closer to the "V". At high tide cast over the "V". If no success move down to broken roads (Strandfontein) and fish next to the pool or the last flight of stairs.

Is clean cotton very important when catching galjoen?
I would say yes. Do not use cotton that stink of sardine. When u use cotton use the cilicone one(very thin) Just tie around the shaft of the hook.

@ Andre, cotton is used to tie the bait to the hook.

Loomis thanks i was standing in a group where everybody was catching Gallies, except me and the only difference seemed to be the cotton mine was lying in the blood in my bait box.

Hmm, it never occured to me, that cotton would retain the smell of sardines strong enough to drive some fish away. Live and learn!

As jy weet waar die blokhuis by Macasar is dan is jy baie naby.
