Hi Eugene.
Sorry for the late feed back..The flight home took ages to get back.the fishing never really fired in our week and not much rain.As the jacks started firing they where gone and that was threadfin and snapper as well.some good fishing was had but the window was very small.
The north bank only started working on our last day it was all on the south bank and over the full water period .Ettiene got the bonus landing three poons in an hour using his own new design goosestix.it is a glider all you do is a slow retrieve the lure does the rest.one was taken on a small britt and the folowing night a small pon on a britt..The jacks and threadfin prefferd bucktails and a few where taken on britt..I had two poon hits and my roomie had two hights .The River was very dead each day.only giving about two fish per angler and a few snappers came out on poppers..
Hope that helps..i spoke to mark two days after we left and there was a slight improvement..

Hey Mike, sorry to hear of the poor results on your trip mate, that’s fishing I guess, but it’s never nice when you miss out like that on a big trip.
Stickleback, thanks mate. There are some things in life you can’t control, but you can always control how you react, so I’m keeping my chin up and I’m sure everything will work out for the best. There are some exciting opportunities around the corner, hopefully giving up on the trip will open up some doors.

It's disappointing, but it could be a lot worse. I consider myself very fortunate to have visited a lot of places I dreamt of growing up and I am grateful for the amazing experiences I've had. I will get to do it another time and in the meanwhile I'll have some other crazy trips that'll make up for this minor setback.

Last cast for me on this thread...the reason I had to cancel is because an absolutely amazing opportunity came my way in the shape of a transfer to Abu Dhabi.
They made me an irresistible offer and, with the added bonus of being right close to some of the best fishing grounds imaginable it was a fairly easy choice. The caveat was that if I wanted it I had to jump on it, unfortunately my Gabon dates would have meant I couldn't take up the position, as they were in a rush to fill the space.
I was pretty gutted about giving up the trip, but the boys from Tourette are just awesome and left the door open for a future trip down there. I can't recommend these guys enough.
Early March it's off to Cape Town for a week or so while I sort out visas and then I start a new chapter with many new adventures....watch this space

@Eugene , hey bud to lift your spirits why not book a trip to ascension island once all your visa missions have been done in Cape Town , catch the HMS St Helena from CT and spend a few days in Ascension i am sure a big Yellow Fin from the ledges will do you a world of good hehehe. Been looking at doing this for awhile now and maybe next time i go down to SA i will try it.

Anyways, work has a habit of getting in the way of fishing, but looks like Cyril is fixing that. I'm sure once I'm in AD we'll get to slay some permit and maybe even geets together in Salalah mate.

Time to dust this old thread off...
2 weeks to go before my North Indian mahseer adventure and disaster strikes again; 3rd time this year for me. Out of nowhere, quite literally as the monsoon officially ended about 10 days back, a sudden deluge came down in the province of Himachal Pradesh and the place got flooded totally. Worst floods in a century they say...so no fishing this year in that area. To put this in perspective, our original plan was to fish the Saryu river in Uttarkhand province - the most famous and prolific of all golden mahseer rivers. That plan ended in July, when the government decided overnight to ban all sport fishing in the state. So to say I've had some bad luck with fishing trips in 2018 is an understatement.
Anyway, as the operator very graciously gave me a full refund and I already confirmed the time off work, I frantically called everyone I know in the sport fishing business. And lo and behold, Rob from Tourette confirmed he has space for the same dates in Sette Cama. It was like the heavens opened up and I could hear angels singing
So it's on. I fly out on 9 October, in camp from 11 to 18 October. Watch this space!
