Fun with the kids & for the kids.

So now with the kids being on school holiday i thought why not spoil them after all good reports deserve some reward. And with a report expected when back at school as to what was done during the holidays this will make for interesting reading or add to it so i hope. With all the ingredients together i got them to join in and always up for fun and learning eagerness was the response.. cool bananas.

This was to be a top secret mission which started from friday and with enough suspense to make a well documented & produced two minute cloak and dagger movie lol with the better half not knowing what type of cake i intended making and not trying to give away the full deed i had all in suspense right till the end.. trying to find out where some of the more important ingredients could be bought was kept to a minimum and proved somewhat frustrating as i tried to keep any clues to a minimum and that did not help if advice cant be given without knowing the full story.

Having visited a few big and well known stores what i needed most was not available and doubt starting to creep in mixed with a sprinkle of hope. One store that specialises in baking utensils and ingredients was looking more like the ace up my sleeve and if ingredient was not be found there then all looked to flop except i got everyone so worked up with all the secrecy surrounding this mysterious cake that no-one had heard of and im not sure how often its baked in good ol' R.S of A never mind heard of.. failure was now not an option with my secret out.

With a visit to said specialist shop ingredient x was there and relief for me as now i can go ahead with top secret cake building mission!.

Having to be at work today i dont think i was able to stand up early to make the cake with them so we were up till late last night mixing, measuring and pouring all the ingredients together which the little people enjoyed doing with it being messy an' all  by the time i put the mixture in the oven they were light's out and in dreamland, cool i thought when they awake the fruits of their labour will be ready and waiting and to top it off had the little people been awake they might well have wanted to have a taste and a refusal might well have offended and hisssy fits and mood swings was not something i was in the mood for.

With a new day upon us the little people were awake and straight towards the cake they marched wanting a taste as im sure it was in their sweet dreams from the night before lol. Serving the cake i was met with oohs and aahs and looking at the cake and somewhat being proud of my achievement as this was my first time trying it thoughts of this should be South Africas national cake for more than one reason came to mind. Pictures will say more.

Well as the saying goes the proof is in the pudding and with all round approval cake was a success. PHEW !!

Ingredients.

1 or 2 boxes of golden cloud cake mixture ( whats needed for batter is on the box)

5 to 7 little tubs of Barco food colourant.. colours i chose were blue, purple, orange, emerald, pink, yellow and rubine. Any food colourant might work if this brand not available.

5 to 7 250ml cups depending on how many colours chosen.. this is to seperate batter and add each colourant ( 1 colour per cup)

Method.

Pour cake mix in a big bowl along with eggs and oil etc and mix with a mixer for a few minutes. Once mixed scoop out two/three table spoons of the batter and pour  into cup. Once all the cups are done add colourant to each cup and this is the part the little people like and one colour per cup and mix in well till batter takes colour of the colourant.

When pouring the mixtures into the baking tray you using pour one colour at a time which goes to the middle of the baking tray and when finished pour another colour in and pour in the middle of previous colour and this will help push mixture to the sides of the baking tray. Repeat process until all colours are in the tray and let it set for a few minutes and its ready to be baked for somewhere between 20-30 minutes.

Once cake has risen to check if cake is ready stick a toothpick in cake and if it comes out dry its done. Then simply enjoy with them and can add icing or whatever else tickles the fancy lol. ENJOY.
