Freshwater jellyfish

All,

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this phenominan, a couple of years ago I found hundereds of freshwater jellyfish floating about in the Buffelspooort dam. We were out sailing and came accross them drifting about.

They were no bigger than 4cm and white/translucent in color. I cought a couple in a jar, and they looked just like their sea cousins.

Unfortunately at the time I did not have a camera with me. Apparently this is a very rare thing and only happens in dams and rivers where the water is of high quality and the ecosystem is perfect for them to exist. Had I known at the time I would have brought some home to photograph :(

Never seen then again after that season

Rings true but as yet have to see fresh water jellies.

Many years ago I saw a program on freshwater Jellies but it was in South Africa.

Unfortunately it is sad to say that the vast majority of our dams will never return to a healthy ecological state.

Would have liked to have seen some pictures - but maybe next time.

I read some american study that Human birth control is having a huge inpact on the breeding cycles of fresh water fish.

Apparently human sewerage has the habit of getting into our rivers and other waterways etc. And as in the case of humans the chemicals that pass through our human female species get into the water and hinder the fertilization of fish eggs and other aquatic animals - now that is scary..............

apparently the same is a happening in cities where they are recycling the sewerage water... Men are showing higher Oestrogen levels... and with it come the Oestrogen lumps on the chest.... Man boobs!! if this keeps up .. a mangina might follow
