Hi Guys,

I'll be heading out to the Drakensberg this weekend coming and would like to go fishing there, does anyone know of spots in close vicinity to the Cathedral Peak hotel?.

They claim to have trout fishing dam on site ...so what lures/flies/bait to use?

I have a Shimi 7ft with a corvalus 400 baitcaster  ..... any assistance or recommendation on what type of tackle and or rigs to use would be great!!!.... i will also browse the fresh water tip forum but would be nice to get some feedback on this thread.

Thanks in advance guys.

Best would be to Drop Leonard Williams a PM as he is currently based in the Berg and would be best to give you the advice you are looking for.
Good luck and tight lines

HEy Bud,
Trout are suckers for in line Spinners in any form.
I have caught them on Jigs/rapala's and any dropshot minnow will work too. SDon't be scared of phsycotic colours actually catching trout on anything other than fly is not very challenging as they are real suckers and easy to catch.
I hope this helps.

Boet you are asking the wrong guy all the right questions - I don't fish for trout that often 1 in the last 5 years and even then it is with fly.

They like it fast and Jerky - but this can be dependant on the day - try everything till you what works on that day.

Cast deep and work towards the shallows - this depends on the temp - I have no idea what the ideal temp is for trout I would expect around 12 but late and early part of the day they will move into the shallows but at the end of the day fish have fins and they will move where they will........

Again sorry bud I cannot relay more info on the subject

We were at Royal natal national park, Tendele and there's a dam, we caught alot on nr 4 Effezet spinners, make sure if you go there that you take your fly gear since they can be a bit vol fdfhh...
Otherwise i think any small bass or tigerfish lures will work
