Fossilised Teeth

Hiya psy,

Nice collection you have got going there!

I spent my youth fishing with 3 brothers from Milnerton Cape Town...Robbin, Neil and Simon Jangle...anyone know them cause I have lost contact some years back.

These chaps lived close to the lagoon and would venture down there after each spring tide or heavy rains and collect fossilised sharks teeth.

The brothers has shoe boxes full, big and small. The collection was amazing! Last I heard they were offered a tidy sum of money for all or some...not sure if they sold up or not in the end.

Keep the collection going...great hobby!

Yeah, if you can get them from the actual fish !

Saw a documentary of large teeth they found, then when they scaled the fish to the size of the teeth the fish was monstrously large, a lot larger than the great whites.

Imagine they make a comeback like the Celecant... plenty of food at the beaches ;-) and a new challenge to catch them :-o

I have got a few of them, how do I buff or shine them up? Think of doing an inlay on coffee table at a later stage.

My wife has Al Capones Antiques/Collectables

She collects 'alles'

The large shark tooth in the photos there is Black. Rather starnge as I have seen Green ones but not black! I think that black tooth is purdy olde!

Check this Fossilised Limpet I found at Blouberg beach when the earthworks started excavating for the newly built Lifesaving Club. It was protruding from the sand.

Hi Trophy,

I went to high school with Simon Jangle. I will chat to some of my old school mates and see if they have his contact details.

quite often when we surf milnerton, the bergies (homeless people who push trolleys and guard cars) offer shark teeth to us for about 20 bucks.
yes you can still find them on spring lows or after heavy storms, you can also find ship parts, sterns, ropes, barrels and anchors etc. make a trip down to milnerton after the storm.
