For light to medium jigging / general purpose in 8000 size which is the better reel..

I have a friend going to the U.S next week and he can get either one, the Sargosa is R200 more than the Stradic.

BTW the Saragosa 8000 with 300yds of  50lbs Berkley Fireline works out to R2136 incl shipping from Cabelas. The Sustain 8000 comes in at R2418.

Your thoughts..

Saragosa 8000 is a smaller reel than you would imagine. Personally, I'd put 30lb whiplash or Tracer Fireline on. I dont think there is much difference between the Saragosa and Sustain in the 8000 size. If you can afford the above then forget about the Stradic

Hello Mate

Try chatting to Nepps. He rates the Saragosa highly. Boys in the US landing big bluefin on them. For what its worth. I have two 4000 Sustains that I use off of my Kayak to catch leeries and they are great little reels. Handle fish to 9kg with ease. Best thing may be to put both of those reels on the rod that you intend to use them on and feel which you like best. I do not think that there is much to seperate them. Also look on Shimano website. You can compare the specs of the two reels in a table next to each other. Look at weight, max drag, line capacity, gear ratio, line per handle turn and all kinds of good things.

I have a feeling that the Saragosa may be a slightly more robust reel than the Sustain, meant more for offshore type fishing.

Either way you will get a great reel.

For 200 bucks, go saragosa. As said before, read the jigging section, highly rated without the price of stella.

Depending what you going to be using it for, you may want to look at 14 000 Saragosa. Max drag goes up dratically from smaller models.

Hi guys,

All 3 reels mentioned above are awesome, Stradic, Sustain and Saragosa... All fantastic, and well proven... just ask Hammertime how many fish his Stradic 8000 has scalped.... I think upwards of 500 now, including a bunch of Longfin and Yellowtail and bunches of Snoek... it also whipped a pretty sizable Bronzie in short order!

For the R 200 extra, I would go with the Saragosa, and spool it with 30lb to 50lb braid..... depedning on what you're gonna be needing it or using it for.... you should get about 380 or even 400 metres of 30lb on her, or just about 300 metres of 50lb .... I think they come with a spare spool, so one of each I guess for different usages...

Either way, you are going to have a great reel in your hands if you choose any of those 3.

I own a 4000 Saragosa, a 2500 Sustain and an 8000 Sustain amongst others. I use them mostly from a boat but the little Sustain has seen use from a kayak and the shore and has been dunked in the salt - without issue. I have never opened it, just rinsed it in fresh water and lubed - the bearings are still dead quiet. I've used it for about 2 years and caught around 100 fish on it. The Saragosa has only been used from the boat and has given great service with no maintenance required. The Sustain 8000 is a huge disappointment. I have only caught a handful of fish on it and the drag is catchy (?) - it jerks. It seems that even a small amount of salt spray enters the drag system and screws it up. I don't know why there would be a difference between the sizes but it is clearly evident. I have also heard other people complaining about this. My advice is to go with the Saragosa in the larger sizes.

Bought the following:

Saragosa 8000
PowerPro braid 20lb green
PowerPro braid 40lb green
PowerPro braid 80lb green

Total R2480.00
Unreal compared to S.A prices...I dont mean to start a price debate.

Friend of mine from here is going to the U.S for 2 weeks to see his chick in Florida.
Bought gear online from Anglers Center and shipped to local U.S address(free shipping on orders over $200).
The stuff gets there, he collects and brings it to me!! The internet is a beautiful thing.

Got all my stuff Thursday, the Saragosa is a machine!! Absolutley smooth, feels VERY solid can't wait to try it out. Spooling it with 40lb Power Pro braid.
Got a Shimano Exage 80 to hang the reel on, anyone with experience on this kind of set up?
