Yes the concept guides make a massive difference. Yes they give improved casting performance but that's not the main reason to use them, you won't cast a leader off again.
Remove the guides and yes we do use less guides than you have on the Bazooka and we place them differently because they work differently to the other guides
Without stripping the rod down but just removing the guides and polishing the old guide marks will cost you R250 guides and labour included.
Add R100 for a full strip and respray but that's not necessary or you can do it yourself. those who know, know that's 1.5 hours elbow grease per rod.

i like to simplify things.. and deciding on what is BEST comes down to the following factors..
PRICE, CASTING DISTANCE and ABILITY TO PLAY FISH.
My previous post was aimed at using Price as one constant and then using Casting and Payability as the X and Y factors. Most of us have a budget to start with and then we look at the other two factors. If i had 2400 I would buy your rods.. But i Don't ... so I will have to look at what is best for my price..

Problem is most don't adapt the playing of the fish to the Broomstick which results in many fish being lost as a result.
I think there is a slight misunderstanding and I understand the budget constraints and that is exactly why I stock R200 fiberglass 12' rods (50% of volume) R500-700 Graphites (35% of volume) R1200-1850 (15% of volume) same as the reels as not everyone has a requirement or budget to buy Shimano XTEA's
The rods in each price class are pretty much like Cars in terms of price and performance
1600's are in comparative price classes and performance and fuel consumption is much of a muchness
Then same with 2000 and then same with 3000 performance cars
All I was trying to point out (as I know the story behind the story of some participating in the discussion) that the reason you are buying and what your long term goals determine what you should be looking at and the investment you should look at making for the future of your sport.
Unfortunately it is also a reality that some of the best in terms of inherrent skill will never afford top of the range tackle or might be able to afford it but buying a new car is more important than investing in tools for competition fishing.......probably why I'm still driving the same Toyota Corolla after 8 years........rods are more important than a new car (for me)

Goto Keet`s Angling Supplies in Boksburg. He builds the 13ft 400/0 and 400/1 series rods. These rods are for casting and are able to pull anything (provided your line thickness is fair) out. I have even used these for casting spoons in the sea, awesome rods. They are light and you can easily fish with them all day, use the 5lb line class.
Get a cheaper set of 10ft rods (R400 - R600 each) and fish with these from 60 - 120m on a bout a 7 - 9lb line class, easier to handle and a joy to catch 50 - 80 fish with.
Remember, if your reel doesn't match your rod and your line is too thick your cast distance will be greatly affected. Practice a good technique and accuracy, it`ll more than likely stick with you for the rest of your angling career and, although casting a long distance is a really good tool to have, don't stare blindly into believing that fish are always deep.

Naruto I'm busy building 3 sets of the rods at the moment for GN and Gauteng anglers. i'm building them the 1 piece but they can be done in 1, 2 or 3 piece. Going price now with the concept lo-riders or Titanium guides is btween R1150 and R1250 depending on additional components and trimming.

I still want to make a turn there Enigma. Want to bring you my Bazookas to get the eyes sorted. Hopefully within the next month or two. This is a really nice post as I have learned a lot the last few month about rods that I always wondered about. My next Pair of rods with definately be serious casting rods like the 400, and I will come and talk to you about it. I really want to take my angling to a higher level and talking to the Experts always helps.

Enigma - The rods i was referring to of Johan`s was the thicker blank, i think they were referred to the 400/0 or /1`s, not sure and again, i stand to be corrected. I know that the guys were using the same blanks on rods built for surf angling, you`ll probably know what i`m referring to then but as you stated, in the right hands and yes, with an M0 you can fish at 120 and heavier to an M2 or M3 you could quite easily outcast anyone fishing close to you using a good 5lb line.
Anycase, i think i`m digressing. I`m in the market for a set of 10ft rods for bank angling, light, durable and need to be able to cast up to a M1 1/2 with a bol. What is your recommendation? I mostly fish with my current 10ft rods (Martin Piek built 2 piece of the shelf R300 each ;-) unless the need arises to go deeper and heavier, so, i need something thats light and comfy to fish with. And oh yes, if you have some prices at hand, it would be great too. If you can give me your address i`ll come round to have a look if you have something, it doesn't have to be custom built.

The /1 and /0 I am building is the thicker saltwater ultralight blank. The thin rod I am referring to that I am now using in their place is the Blue Marling T53 G2 13'
The Martin Piek rods that were sold at R300 a piece are imported and not manufactured locally, he did the design.
I recently brought in IM6 10' blanks that we built a rod capable of casting to 160m+ but which can be fished with M1-P4
I personally have gone the same Route as Dewalt vd Walt. I cut his AK 47 blanks down to 10' and 9' He uses these rods to fish up to 120m and then goes over to his 12' I did the same with my 13' Prophet specimen rods so it's got awesome backbone in lower half and still remains fishable.

Most of the 10' blanks on the market, especially the light ones are not going to make it if you start to Bliksem with them.
I quite like the Sensation Bazooka 10' but it is factory assembled so it needs customising (shorter grip, guide placement and sizes) to make it a 10' for a A league Angler
