Ok guys, these are my 9 ounce sinkers I made myself, using moulds bought from oom Dup. Aren't they pretty..?

I even sandblasted them to take the "bling" off . Are they according to specs..? or should the "grapnel wires" be longer?

My boom is made of 1.6mm and the grapnel wires 2mm

That's a bute Ants. Well done man. Mine looks very similar, but i use 2mm wire for the graps and 1.6mm stainless for the boom. I further make a clip, so i can clip my sinker to the O ring, so i don't cast the sinker snood of, resulting in a lost sinker. Some of my sinkers i also ad a 3/4oz ball sinker to the boom so it coveres it self in the sand quicker.
Hooch: explain the bit 'bout the o ring????
On your normal grapnel sinkers there is a clip so you can clip your bait to the sinker to get more distance in your cast. The same rule applies with sliders. I normaly fish with 1.5m of 200lb carbon coated steel attached to my mainline either via a no 2 power swivel or fig 8 knot. Now the O ring is attached to the end of your steel also via the fig 8 or flemish eye. Now you would normaly use a sinker sinker line with a weaker breaking strain than your mainline to attach your sinker to the o ring. This serves two perposes. One, If your sinker get stuck on the bricks wile fighting a fish it will snap and secondly if your slide trace hasn't reach your stopper ring and a fish picks you up, your sinker snoot will snap before your main line does. The reason why i personaly clip my sinker to the o ring is when i cast, I cast with a very long drop and if i do not clip the sinker to the o ring i will cast the sinker off, and trust me it hurts your back if this happens. Especialy with a HMG rod.

hey ants you know it mate,, you know it,, not far from my leads look like with the longer grapnell and boom
Eish Deisel you're right...I know it.My sandy JUST managed to dislodge that "grapnel" I got from you. Now I know why it took me so long to land the flippen thing. The sinker kept on "grabbing"...:fswim

It is very easy to make this sinker ,get hold of an cone sinker mould ,drill it and youre done.Look at the way I shape my wires.

The idea is that the strenght is in the way the wire is bend.

This sinker will hold better than a longboom sinker trust me its plain simple basics.

FACT; you should cast a 8 ounce further than a 10 ounce with a heavy rod.

giving you more distance

FACT; the design of the cone makes it sit better in sand as opposed to a long egg or round shape

FACT:The weight of the sinker is in the top third of the sinker where you want it to grip pushing youre wires into the sand.

The idea behind a long boom is that it forces the front end into the sand when you pull youre rod in the slide.

FACT;the weight of the cone is in the top third pushing it down automaticly.

Spyker when you explain it, it all just makes sense. Thanks. What type of wire would suggest using?

The idea is not to make youre wires to long in this case the power is in the stiffness of a shorter wire as opposed to long wires.

if you look at the bend in the wires that is what gives it strengh and its stiffnes ,but it will release when you really pull it.

I use 1.6 mm stainless wire in this case but any springsteel wire will do the job.

2mm if you want to ,but trust me it really is not necasary .

Go and look at secondhand shops or old tackle shops you will find the mould there.

and it should be cheap as it is no longer in use,or try some of the old school guys they should still have one in the shed somewhere.
