Lats day of the week, ended with a nice catch and smile.
not expecting it, but a nice surprise

this small geet took a dead shad on a slide, just before dark.
it took off to china, but then got lost and turned around to nearly beech itself.

a quick pick and off it swam to fight another day!!

a bag of note.

so, do not make bets, if you cannot follow through on it!!!!

the lucky bugger Slakkie, stated that he would give away his shotgun, if we got a pull during the afternoon.

well, with 6 x slide baits out he was in for a surprise.

we had some fresh shad which we caught earlier in the morning in maphelane bay.
the baits were shad heads, shad bellies, whole dead shad and cut shad.

the fight was not long
this is the first for us, as we dont not fish for non eds.

the boys did have a great, staying at https://www.villamiaholidayflats.co.za

at times it looked like a whirlwind had passed through the flat, but the memories made is priceless.

a very lucky angler, when hooks bend open like this, the chances of a lost fish is increased 10 fold

the fresh red eye sardines sourced from Mark De La Hey was great to attract and hook the fish.

Mark De La Hey also stays at Villa Mia Holiday flats when doing some charter fishing for clients.

this small sand shark gave a good account of himself

hook size does matter, but placement in the bait, is more important

the eye can capture a sunset much better then any camera on the planet.

St Lucia is still one of the last, safest places where you can fish alone, no group fishing is needed for safety purposes.

the St Lucia mouth is also threatening to open/ break through to the sea by itself.
some holiday makers wanted to dig it open, but parks board were alerted to it and they stood guard to prevent it from happening.

its just a matter of time, it has to break through on its own, not man assisted. but that is my view.

Interesting video boet...I hope the system starts flushing itself out soon...The rainy part of the year end summer has still got to come so it will open up sooner or later. It's going to be a hellavu lot of water getting on the move!

We still need so much water!!!
my opinion, it needs to flood and break through by itself.
with no interference from man.
then we can see how long it will stay open.
if they could have done some things inside the lake to assist with volume of water, that would have assisted.

but for now, we will just watch to see what happens.

Just a update 6 January 2022.

Shad is still present at St Lucia.
Some other summer fish is coming out from the beach.
Geets have been scarce, but knowing where and what to do will assist you in landing one.
5km north from the swimming beach is the "slides" area.
Some fish have been coming out there as well.
Some nice rock cod and stumpies.

The weather has been crazy all summer long.
The wind has been howling constantly and good nice fishing days has been few and far.
Here Phillip, the care taker of Villa Mia posing with a lekker grunter, taken on sardine in the surf off Ingwe beach

Two commercial boats are operating @ St Lucia.
Bambazonke and Robert e Lee are the ones.

They are only allowed to harvest bottom fish/ reef fish.
They are doing it by fishing off the much deeper ledges.

We need bottom fish on our reefs in order to attract game fish.
Ski boat anglers fishing off St. Lucia and Cape Vidal are not allowed to fish for bottom/ reef fish species
