Got there at 7 am. Water didn't look good and the wind prediction for the afternoon was more wind.

Decided I will get a site with Wil101 on his ark duck and leave the ski on the roof for today. Loaded everything and off we went.

Quite a few commercials on the 40m mark, so out went the anchor. The wind and swell was so bad that the anchor only held when we got to the 25m mark. Saw two snoek come out for the whole day.

We caught many gurnards on any tackle you put in the water. Also got a few hotties. They came out pink and we first thought it was steentjies.

Decide to go and try the reef at Bordjiesdrif for some roman. The swell was so bad now that the anchors trip broke and we decided to go back, because at that stage we were quite bashed up from the swell and cold.

We will get the snoek. We will keep on trying. Must say I like Wil101 little duck. Might try to get me one for the times that the weather isn’t good for the ski and when you want to fish two people.

Ok guys I am seriously looking at the Ark Seal.

Few questions :
What size motor ?
What have you guys heard of the Tohatsu motors ?
I can get one cheaper new and I have a friend that
has a new motor that he doesn't use. Will have to
check what size it is. I also hear Mercury re-brands
them and sell them as Mercury's.
Long shaft or short shaft ? I don't understand this. I
would thing both will work.

Look at this hungry gurnard. The hook from my garfish literally jammed sideways in it's mouth.

Definitely the smallest maasbanker I've ever seen! It was kotched out by a gurnard! The larger one was foul hooked by a jig.

This is where we anchored just before leaving the water. Looks a lot better from afar, although I think the water calmed down a bit here by the time I took the pic.

ps regarding Buffels bay wind conditions: The wind was a strong N, which basically blows parallel to the coast (from Smits' side) and there is no protection from it this side of the point. Had it turned NW, we would have had nice sheltered conditions. Buffels is sheltered from everything between NW & S. SE brings swells (wind generated chop) into Buffels bay and the conditions are usually not great for small craft then.

On the other hand, with a Northerly wind, the water at the other side (Cape of Good Hope) is a lot calmer, although there is no real protection from the wind. It is possible to launch here at one spot only which I have identified. It is a tricky launch from a small rocky bay but it is well protected.

Hi Will & Rudolph, I arrived at Buffels at about 9.30 am Sat. morning hoping to find someone there, din'dt see anybody there like, in no cars, bakkies. where did you launch from? By the way I saw a couple of commercial boats at around the 40m mark , took out my binoculars and I could see they looked very busy on board. could'nt say if they were cathching snoek though. the wind was pumping... looked like straight north, could be wrong though. I was wathing those boats for about an hour. when I left they were still at it... Till next time

My bakkie with the ski on the roof was parked where we had the braai the last time and Willie's white corsa bakkie was parked next to it.

We launched at about 7:45
