Fishing in Thailand!!!

Our 8th and final day was spent at Bungsamran (or BSR) where we fished for the Giant Mekong Catfish. The pond is stocked to the brim with Mekong Catfish, Siamese Carp, Toman, Arapaima and a whole host of other exotic fish. There was so much surface action it is just not funny. There we fished from a bungalow and everything was done for us. When I say everything I mean everything… Not that this is what I would consider fishing to be honest, but it is great fun never the less. The guides did everything from bait up, cast in, and even strike the fish, I know this sounds pretty lame, but that is just how it worked. We would fight and land the fish ourselves. These are pretty stubborn fish and not one fish took less than 15 minutes to land! Good, hard fighting fish! On the day we managed to land 17 Mekongs with an average weight of around 20kg excluding a monster of an estimated 55kg which Graham had landed. What a fight that was! The guide had to swim with the rod under and around the bungalow supports just to make sure we land the fish.
All in all it was an unforgettable trip and I can’t wait till next year when we do something similar again… maybe some wild Barramundi fishing downunder.
