Fishing in Texas

Hi all , had pleasure of going to Houston to walk my daughter down the isle on her special day and thanks to her and son in law managed to squeeze in a small fishing trip in Galveston which is on the Gulf of Mexico + some shopping in the infamous Basspro shops , the beaches are not the best and lots of seaweed. !!

As u can see its pretty flat and featureless on that section of coastline.

Saw no-one doing any R&S, and the fishing seems to be mostly bay fishing / off-shore or deep-sea , took a pic off the back of the boat as we headed out do do some bay/off-shore fishing.

The bay fishing is mostly done at breakwater reefs which have been constructed to try and keep the huge water surges at bay from hurricane's , when hurricane Ike went thru here about 2 yrs ago it did some seious damage to Galveston low lying areas.

Daughter managed to catch a good sized Bullred (redfish) which is most commonly caught in the bay. 29 inches long , the fish are measured , if between 25 to 29 you can keep it ,below or above it goes back in the sea.

Here's one i caught as well , not much of a fight ,but apparently the bigger ones can produce a more energetic fight.... note the Sealine shirt.. the skipper was very interested when i gave him a brief rundown about Sealine and what we all do , specially the sliding for big sharks..L.O.L

Unfortunately one of the members on the boat hooked a catfish (sea barbel) and while removing the hook from its mouth the skipper got jabbed by one of the spines and cut the fishing trip short as he was in serious pain , he actually could'nt drive the boat back so i had the fun of getting us back home , that 225 Yamaha has got some serious grunt when u open her up , was good fun .. !! spotted this poor mans weekend runabout in the jetty area when we got back... ouch those are not cheap, note the smaller 'toy" as well

Here's the fish that were caught 2 x redfish and one sheeps head , called this because of its teeth they look exactly like a sheeps teeth.. !!

And finally BassPro , got some serious equipment in there ,wide variety of every thing u can think of , boats , motors the whole lot , a outdoor/ fishermans paradise , pricing is good some things cheap compared to us and some pricing not too cheap , all in all was good fun ... now to sort out the credit card for the next couple of months/years.. L.O.L

Thanks Chris , was good fun and the skipper was pretty dumbstruck at what we catch here and how we go about it i told him to log-on and browze the site , doubt he will though that barbel got him real good.
