Fishing Drakensberg

Hi All,

I am heading off to Alpine Heath Resort in Northern Drakensberg towards the latter part of the year.

I have never fly fished for Trout but I have done Saltwater Flying and Fresh water in Lake Vic.

Any good spots that you guys can recommend in the berg region more specifically the Northern Part.

I hear the resort has some dams and streams.

Thanks bro,I tried getting a booking there but nothing available,even tried umzimkulu river lodge but that was booked too.

Have you fished Lake Naverone?

Contact Leonard Williams(Sealiner) he was working there and probably still is he will tell you what pattern and may even come fish with you.................

Just be ready for a Hearty pinting session with the lad

Hey Ryan,

Thanks man,I saw his posting on flytalk.co.za so I sent him a pm earlier.

From what I read which was a old posting they added 90kg of Trout there and he mentioned he caught 31 in a day:)

So I think my choice of resort was good.

I always up to pinting sessions:)

hay,went down this morning got span,went yesterday and also got 12 on fly,so when are you coming up here?when you get here ask for me at reception and we can go wet a line,bring a drop shot rod with aswell.weather is very good,snow on the mountains and very cold so the water is 100s for trout.bring plenty whooly buggers with you,big 1s take you under the rocks and snap you off.cheers

Dropshot? What you catching on dropshot?Bass?

high guys we've been to the drakensburg sun hotel in central drakensburg several times and have never been able to catch any thing in the dame on fly or dropshot please please any help, tips or advice will be great thanx

conditions play a huge part in it.like just before this thursday we were nailing everything,trout bass barbel carp yelloy fish,and they knew there was bad weather coming so we had lots of fun,last night there was heavy rain and hail,so now the fish wont bite for a long time.all about conditions and temp!they still bite buts its very slow and you need to work hard

Lenny suggest you pull a dictionary boet. Hearty is the correct spelling - your so called "Harty" is slang cell phone language....................................Schmuck - you can look that one up too.........................................
