Feeding balls/Bait balls

Hi the recipe christob has set out is absolutely correct and with the sugar in it doesn't need preservatives and if you want a harder ball that doesn't break easily then use flour as binder not the popcorn feed.

Christo now I know why you guys sukkel with small fish in tournaments, it's because of all the feedballs.

Our team that has 1 Gold, 2 Silvers and 1 Bronze at the champs never use more than 3000 bolls even at Bloemhof.

The mass baiting campaign is just not our cup of team. We fish and feed accurately which needs a lot less feed and we rocket 4-8 hours a day on the peg delivering particles and boilies into the swim consistently rather than mass carpet bombing.

Our best using this method is 1195kg in 60 hours.

The last tournament myself and Marius won was with 877kg in August in Bloemhof and we only used 1000 (7kg 10mm goilies included)ready made balls and 500 fresh that we made on the peg and in the 877kg we had 2 fish that were shy of the 1.5kg mark.

Our average was 3.89kg per fish and we lost only 3 fish off the hook in total, fishing with Tri-Blade 8714 #6

Maybe I'm just to lazy to hurt myself putting 10,000 feedballs in at 60m

Gideon van Zyl of Pretoria makes a press that one uses with a PVC ram tube (Makes a sausage) and cutter (cuts 5 equal sized discs) then press to make 5 feedballs at a time.

With this 2 guys can make 7000 feedballs in a day and if you don't drink a few beers and watch rugby while doing it you can make 10,000 in a day.

Thanks Craig, i like the machine idea. How much does he charge for the machine? I like the idea of making my own bait, although it's very time consuming sometimes.

I agree with the fact that particles are a better method of baiting your swim, i'm not the biggest fan of the mass feeding method.

I used baitballs last year as a part of my campaign on a water i was fishing.

Now i was not baiting up far out as the water was not that big so i was using a catapult for this.

I am interested in the way you guys are rocketing these baits in?

Could you maybe post a pic not sure if it is the method i maybe saw somewhere before?

Thanks.

Will not cooking be a disadvantage?

Also i think my bait ball are too big, going to need a rocket launcher to get them in! LOL

Hi Lawyer. that mix will work and if you leave the bait to dry it will take up to 6 hours to dissolve th ball with fish eating on it.

I use the bait ball approach to introduce particles into the swim so I have 10mm boilies or boilie chop in them.

If you add particles or boilies to the feed balls and you use the cooking recipes we indicated earlier in the post the bait balls won't sink even when dried out for 6 months. The molasses type will never float.

ChristoB the ball press is going at R800, I am taking 2 to Namibia next week. He makes them on order and it takes about 10 days.

I use Gardner baitspoons or an Aluminium one that I bought.

You can buy handles from Johan Louwies of JL custom rods in Rustenburg. He uses a Composite blue marlin 400/3 as basis with an aluminum fitting for the baitspoon.

I use a Purglass 4000 blank which is stiffer and the same length. I can throw single mollasses balls (40mm maximum allowed in comp) to 100m and 3 at a time at 65m.

I'll do a post on rocketing if it isn't in the site already, the specimen terminology would be SPODDING. We use the spod for smaller particles but our mass baiting with 18-22mm boilies we use a long handle baitspoon.

What I left out on my previous post is my Sling.

I make a sling from some household products (I got the sample in a Tournament i fished in the USA - USA Airforce officer made it for me)

With the big one (illegal for competition I can cast 150gr of boilies (18-22mm) to 90m in a grouping of about 3m - 6 casts and I put a Kg of boilies down in a fishable bed.

With the smaller pouch I can cast a 60mm Mollasses bol to 160m and a 40mm bol at 130m. This is what we used to get a 2nd Place at the nationals at Vaaldam, we could all feed and fish at 120m, we mixed fresh feedballs with boilies in and fed at 120m.

We also fished a spod at 120m but that is hard work as you have to reel it in all the time and we threw a few off because you have to use 10lbs braid to get it out there and when the wind came up we could only use the sling.

I see there sensation has a big sling and some other suppliers have the smaller one.

On social bank angling trips i take 4kg popcorn, make 24-28 big feedballs and cast them out to where we're going to fish, make up my rigd and by the time I start fishing the feed starts to work and it's game on.

Here is a link to a You-Tube video of the sling in action.

This one is however illegal for competition as it is classed as a spod and max diameter is 40mm

Carp R Us in Sa sell one. Henkor has them in stock (it must have a fin or float at the bottom or the feedball will not come out at all (see on video there is a fin below)

Link to a Romanian site selling them - more detail visible

When I get back from our Carp tournament in Namibia I'll post some photo sequences of spodding and sling casting with the tournament results

I didn't see it on their website , so I emailed them.
I noticed they're in Pretoria.  Is there any place in JHB that stocks it?
