Ethics/ Moral Question

Take the following situation as an example, and then say what you would do!

 

A good friend/ family member is involved in serious marine contraventions. Catching way over quotas, fish out of season, selling fish on a huge scale, implication other non-involved individuals, using property/ vehicles without permission in the course of these illegal activities. You find out about it via the grape vine but had suspicions before.

 

What do you do???

 

I suppose a simuilar situation would be perlemoen poaching, what do you do if you know someone is involved int his activity. Your voicing of your opinion on the issue falls on deaf ears. What do you do???

there is no one answer boet. you need to make a decision that you can live with? not reporting him has it's own issues for you to live with, as does reporting him. what other people would do is unimportant, it's what you will do that matters because you're the one in the thick of it. making the choice between the right choice and the easier choice is where your character gets tested boet, good luck if this isn't a hypothetical situation, it's a messy situation to be in. bear in mind that tipping off the authorities can be done anonomously and nobody would need to know it's you... if the decision you make will not help you sleep at night then it's the wrong one, listen to your gut, whatever your heart is telling you to do is what you should do. quite honestly, if you've already made this post then my gut tells me that you've made your decision and just want some validation it's the right one. the right thing to do is to report him.

This is the second time this came up this week.

I for 1 will never go to the authorities, instead i will try my best to change the person's view/ways. Rather educate him, make him aware of the damage he is doing.

Looking at all the criminals in SA, i wonder how many of them change their ways after they have been busted? Most of the time they will just carry on doing it after their sentence/fine is done.

If you did you part trying to educate the person and he still don't change his ways, you need to make call and report him.

The million dollar question is how long do you give yourself to help this oke?
