Kumz that is great to hear. Myself and 5 other people are STOPPING comps because of the issues ESA has created. :X

I'm in SA because I enjoy it here, but the new age business ethics are really starting to hack me off. No matter what you do as a consumer, you are bound to get shafted. I bought a brand new boat last year and the second time out my steering wheel came off at almost 100km/h !!! If it wasn't for hydraulic steering I would probably be dead. The shop I bought it from then told ME to tow it from KZN to GP at my cost.... I freakkin ended up doing this twice. I discovered a whole heap of problems with the rig and it took me over 4 months to get the boat sorted and back in my driveway. The ESA comps came with a lot of promises, as did the membership benefits, but where are they? Many people knew about my boat issue, and a lot of my mates were shocked and said it was not acceptable etc. They are all right about that, but what is the difference between buying a boat or a membership? They are both products that you purchase but the promises and guarantees aren't there. There is no difference at all, but somehow if the value is small we seem to think it's ok to ignore it and "be patient"

As a single entity I may have been ripped for R140K worth of bass boat, and in terms of dealer ethics that may not be right. If another organisation rips thousands of people off for R50-00 then we think it's fine.:?

I'm afraid I'm with Revo on this one....all ESA have really brought to the party is a long litany of half truths and broken promises. Their website has been full of "under construction" and "coming soon" for the last year-no lie- and they haven't organised the megabuck makeovers yet. Their online shop doesn't operate. Their knowledge workshop adds one item every month or so. Their magazine is basically a carbon copy of the show...seen the show, you've basically read the magazine. They keep sending subscription mags out a week after they appear in the shops. They have some half asses plans like restocking fish and other marine projects in the anning stages. They fell down so badly in delivering membership stuff that you now have to cough up an extra R 30 for courier fees to get your stuff...on top of the steep monthly subs.

Not for me....my subscription to the magazine will not be renewed once it lapses.

If you have only a Mag subscription, then it will lapse after a year;  but if you are a member, it never lapses unless you cancel in writing... many people are under the impression that their membership will automatically lapse after a year. Not true. There is no renewal of ESA membership... it's ongoing until cancelled. So beware.

Reefman, not a go at you here as I think you added some important info for guys like Fish4fun, but there are people who have mailed ESA and notified them of there intent to cancel membership yet when the stop order goes off at the end of the month, the bank says that the problem is on ESA's side. How this happens is beyond me as I thought a stop order is controlled by myself in terms of cancellation and a debit order is for a loan outstanding etc...

Guys ,I hear all your comments & can relate to most of what has happened ..
May i kindly pls suggest that you call directly & ask to speak to someone senior & you will perhaps get your issue sorted ..

ESA - aside i have had very bad experiences with many other suppliers of various fields ...finance ..insurance ..GM motors ..most people want the sale & will window dress any deal but will not follow through ..Days of our lives in SA ...

This is from my personal experiences ...

Shot for the info Reefie, but I signed a 3 year sub when they started offering subscriptions, ONLY for the mag , paid a couple hundred bucks, probably about five or six issues left....I'll not renew. The normal memberships....NEVER!!!!! Too damn expensive, and seriously not value for money.

It is unfortunately false advertising, but read the fine print, I'm sure they have protected themselves.

From ESA News letter ..FYI

Due to many complaints and difficulties our members have had with the current debit order date being the 3rd of every month we have changed it to the 30th of every month.
Previously we have run a 30 day account with our members, for example if you joined in the last week of April or the first week of May you would only be debited on the 3rd June. Thus when this changeover is made which we will be doing in July you will be debited on the 3rd of July 2008 for June and then you will be debited again on the 30th for July 2008 for July. This will only be done in July and from then on your account will only be debited on the 30th of every month.

We hope that you will bear with us during this transition period and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us on member@esaworld.co.za.

Please also note that this only affects the members who joined before or on the 19th June 2008.The members who have joined thereafter will only be debited on the 30th of every month.

Please note that your membership is automatically renewed annually. We previously sent e mails out every month to the members who are up for renewal, however many of our members have not received these e mails for some or other reason. We would thus like to inform you, that we will be automatically renewing your membership unless we receive an e mail before your membership is up for renewal, stating you do not wish to continue.
Please ensure your e mail goes to member@esaworld.co.za a month prior to the next debit order. Please also note that there is a price increase when your membership is renewed, your membership fee will increase by R30.

If you advertise a 3X annual makeover to the value of R200k – R400k in your “Why Join” column on your website, on let’s say July 2007, and a person joins in that month purely for this reason and pays for the full year. Not for the shirt that runs the first time it’s washed, or cap, or magazine that comes late, or the DVD that’s already backed up from your PVR to DVD, BUT PURELY FOR THE CHANCE TO BE ONE OF THE THREE POTENTIAL MAKEOVERS IN THE FOLLOWING 12 MONTHS! This is a huge prize and is potentially bigger than winning a boat in one of the big fishing tournaments.

Do you guys not think it unfair that you get to July 2008 and there is not one single draw been made?

So what if some logistics became a problem for the company offering this as ‘bait’ to lure someone into an annual membership. IT’S NOT OUR PROBLEM!

fishton I have to agree with as I joined esa purely for the website and some of the features that were only available to its members. So a year ago I joined and well those website features are still not up and running. So yes I agree with you not everybody joines for the shirt and cap and dvd but if you haven't joined for those reasons you pretty much waisting your money

Well here is my 2c worth. I had a membership and did not receive any stuff from them. When I took it up with them they said the post office sent it back. But that’s not true. But still did not get anything
People that won prices on their comps are still waiting for the stuff. So ya basically if you do win something from them the chances are 99.9999% that you not going to get it

I feel sorry for the guys that do the show (Raymond and crew), they obviously try.

I mean look at it this way, the things that we complained about (about the show) have changed / been done not long after us talking about it.

Am I the only one whos noticed this ?

no man i must say the show rocks and for a newbie like me i really enjoy it, something i picked up is the rock and surf guys are doing edibles, i remember this was mentioned not to long ago on sealine that they only did inedibles for rock and surf and where was the edible aspect and what do you know the last few weeks they are going with lighter stuff for those edibles, so ray and team appreciate it showing another side to this wonderful sport, maybe you need to go a train the powers that be that control membership and the website what customer service and satisfaction is.

Like I have said so many times before, and everyone I know, we love the ESA TV shows, they are awesome.

But what I'm trying to say is - just because Victoria Secret makes an awesome pair of panties, it doesn't make them a good gynaecologist!!!
