Hey everyone, I have just been informed by a concerned ex-KZN resident about a very disturbing situation.
Many of you would have remembered that last years Sardine run was very disappointing with very few sardines, making their way up to our coastline. Well I just got off the phone with Jerry Easton of Mossel Bay, who has just possibly explained why.
He explained to me that the Mossel Bay fishing harbour, looks like a mad house with trawlers having just landed there, and conveyor belts of sardine/pilchards are being taken off the boats straight into container trucks. It seems that these trawlers are netting the sardines before they even leave the Cape.
Jerry explained to me that last year he did witness this similar activity, but was unsure of what was going on. But it seems that these fishing trawlers are now netting most of the sardines that were intended to make their way up to our Coastline. Jerry even explained that there are plans underway to build two Canning Factories in Mossel Bay
Surely this cannot be allowed? This could mean the end of the Sardine Run in KZN.
end.
Can something be done about this????
