Elbe rods..

Hi fellow dropshotters ,i recently visited fisherman's warehouse and was rather amazed to find an extensive range of elbe dropshot products ranging from backpacks to lure sleeves etc and then i marvelled at their rod selection...i'm currently using a berkley 7 ft medium spinning rod and after just recently reading a past post on "stiff fast action" rod advantages as far as lure action goes,i'm now in the avenue of buying another rod for my abu and so my question to you blokes is ,should i invest in an elbe ? I must admit their rods are rather impressive cos they boast High modulate graphite and to me i'm rather dazzled by the whole sales high tech jargon lol and at a well priced R250 it certainly did raise my eyebrow and interest...anyone out there own an elbe dropshot rod or had a look at one? Plz advise me guys i'm all ears on this one!

Bud i got meself the Sensation Passion Stick at 470 small karoo, bokkies and the Loomis & Franklin Dropshot rod at 600 small karoo bokkies, and man let me tell ya, rigged both of them with shimano's one with a 4000 slade and the other with a 4500 symetre and strapped 30lb Ande braid to these, did some concrete fishing in the dackyard on the plot and managed 60m's casting distance with a 1/8 oz jig-head riggeg with a 3" jerkshad, now both these rods are medium fast action rods although the Passion stick is a wee bit stiffer than the Loomis.

Now I also had bothe these rodsa out in the fresh hunting for LGF's aka Bass, and I was seriously impressed with both.

Elbe, well the kid has an elbe spinning rod and it's great, however we had a breaking, actually it was more like an explosion, of the front section (two piece rod) when a serious barbel took the hook and swam like there's nooooooooooooooo 2 morrow, so i have my doubts about their quality.

Finally a response! Thanks bro i've been constantly bombarded with choices.i think the abu is a good reel and its only deserving it should be partnered with a rod to match its calibre ,so i think it would be a better option to fork out a bit more money .thanks again for the advice bro! Tight lines

No probs OD, just wish I could have given you this info after I had fished in the big blue pond, so that it could have been info after it was tested with some fishy thing on the end of the line, but the concrete fishing like i said wasn't that bad, only problem i experienced was the sixe of the leader to braid knot when my leader was longer than 1 1/2 meters, casting it out then it used to sort of hooh on the eyes and violently jerked the rod as the knot passed through the eyes, but since i've shortened the leader so the knot is just outside the last eye, no problems 60m smooth casting is all that is on the menu now......

No beef Lgf...i wil give myself a good christmas gift by affording myself 2dropshot rods this december season and i'll give both the elbe enforcer 7ft and the daiwa excellor 7ft a bash and see which comes out tops....wil keep you posted mate. Cheers

OD - a slightly different question ... That Abu Cardinal of yours, how is she treating you? Any line twist problems at all?
Reason I ask is my old man bought one a couple years back... Lovely little reel with a smooth action and great drag, but it became an absolute NIGHTMARE to fish because it twisted the line so badly... we spoke to an agent abiout it and he said it was a problem with a certain year/model of these reels.
I'm curious to see whether they have sorted the problem out, as they are great reels, but fishing them with with the line twist issue became impossible!

Hey nep. Erm so far all she seems to be giving me is pure bliss...i dont want to over praise her just yet or for worse jinx it but i'm yet to encounter a problem...awesome drag and great smooth control both on casting and reeling.....she's a bit small on stature but by no means a reel to throw in the towel :) i'm simply having a totall blast with it ....i'm actually lookin for another reel tho just to back up my heavier arsenal...was thinking daiwa excellor but i somehow feel i should put my faith in a rival brand...i've seen those quantum cabo's tht good o'l hennie papenfuss uses but i'm not too sure bout it's pricing....looking more to shop in the R500-R600 bracket...then again there's 2 more choices i've considered..the okuma salina(R550 ) and the Metallica XP as advertised in the Esa mag(R525)...do u have any knowledge bout these reels perhaps?

Cool man, glad she's treating you well!
As to the other reels - The Quantumns are awesome. Great finish, tough as nails, and smooth as silk. Good bang for your buck as they compare to the upper price range Shimano's like Stradics and Spheros in performance, but not in price.
I've not fished the Okuma's, but have also heard good things.
Never heard of our seen the Metallicas, I don't read ESA, sorry can't give you any info there..
I know I've said it before, but especially with spinning reels, and if you are going up in size, try to buy the very best you can afford... Cheap spinning reels are exactly that, CHEAP! They will let you down at some point, and usually at the worst time, like when you have hooked a dream fish.

Buy It Now price of $108 bucks... Dunno if maybe you looking for something a little bigger, but this reel with give you 200 yrds of 30lb braid... Any fish that takes more than 150 yards of line, you are gonna lose anyway!!!

Yup couldnt agree with you more bout cheapo reels nep. I'm gonna have a look at those reels you suggested and decide from there...like u said aint nothin worse than cursing your tackle wen the big bad boy comes along!

my uncle has a elbe dropshot rod and he is going to target some garrick in george. he didn't catch anything yet so i'll give feedback when he does.
