hello there ..new member from uk .thought i would post something on here just to make effort ..had been itchin to get out again after readin a few posts of
men doin it with both hands ....a thought to myself i will have bit of that
50 blow lug ,3 packs of big blacks, 10 big peeler and a half pound of rag , had box of squid in freezer....
sets of on my walk down to sizewell beach stoppin at rest point for a smoke
just started walkin again when a guy in a van stopped for a look, the guy from sunderland ...he was very intrigued about ma yak and seemed a very keen angler himself , we where havin the crack about fishin and stuff ...about ten mins had passed , had to tell the guy that i needed to get on cos i was chasing the tide to help me get there..gave him some local info for bait n boat trips from orford quay and set off again smellin the sea air an quickening my pace...ah lovely am here
the water looked nice n calm and sun was out ...lets get into it billy a thought ..wasnt long before i was in doin it , now the last time i paddled from here it was against tide , this time i had it right..paddle was a doddle, gettin her up to 8/9klms per hour so it wasnt to long before i was round the point [thorpness]
lookin at aldeburgh in distance
stopped paddlin for a wee smoke [as you do]..still movin with
flow of tide
after smoke set off again knowin that the tide would be changin dirrection soon, it was perfect out in water , nice steady paddle ...
found ma forte with this paddlin lark , first time i was bull in china shop ...but after clacton with the essex , kent and solent massive, watchin how the boys did it ..much more enjoyable for sure , so paddlin on past aldeburgh town arriving at martello tower
now am gettin excited only 3 mile to ma mark , lookin across at shingle bank which is the start of "dirty wall"great place to fish from bank as its deep in close and the further you get up the wall
,the deeper it gets
mabee a hour or so later arrives at mark and start to set up gear for the days proceedings , pennels on both for big bait heaven , one rod with braid[30lb] and one with mono [16lb] runnin sinkers with memorex [ white] with size 6 for bottom hook and aberdeen match size 3 for top , previously on last trip ihad scottys
mounted to my left and right , didnt get on with rods there so opted for one up front and one on lap
it was a bit quiet for first hour due to changing tide , wasnt to long before the old rod started givin it the big one ...lovely a wee codlin ..dont know weight mabee 2/3lb ish a wee cracker
right thats me off the mark , absolutely lovin it here...pondering on something someone had said to me when i was walkin through town " why dont you just fish off the bank like everyone else " good point , now av fished off the bank for 15 years here, and its great sometimes!! but this fishin from a kayak is the business and i wont be stoppin now !! and av got to say ..i do enjoy the paddlin / n cardio vascular stuff good for the "bellend "too
anyway back to the fish ..bang ..yee haa the rod in holder goes off ..another codlin , a little bigger than the last one
these fish are in great condition , and there still here in big numbers , some dudes where sayin on other forums [ good ones] that the spring run was coming to the end cos the bass had started showing ...well i dont see it that way ..then again wtf do i know , i will tell you ..nothin but the fishin here today was the best ive had it ..ever .. they just kept on coming every time the bait settled on bottom ..bang off again , i couldnt get rollin a f*g for hour n half ...now a was gettin to stage where i couldnt get anymore fish in/on yak //dont have sack/bag to hang over side , another thing i learnt today was that big cod have big teeth cos i lost a f**kin beauty right at the yak , i had put hand in mouth to lift it out of sea and cut my hand so tried to lift with mono...bad idea ..ping ..YA FFFF... the one that got away...still lookin back on it ,the fish was a double for sure ..well thats ma story lads
tremendous days fishin here which will be hard to better, must have caught 30 coding from 2lb to 7lb [ apart from the escapee]
put back most ..smallest obviously ..kept 15 gooduns ..time was passing and knew the tide was due to turn soon , just then the dreaded doggies came on , had mabee 7 in a row so thats my day done here
lovely wee creatures dogs ..but to much hastle
forgot to mention half way through session i had a runner , on the braid rod , rod had buckled over and it had stripped 50 mtrs of line off before i could get to it ...ping ..i think t could have been a thornie cos it as very violent in its manner , but a great adrenelin rush fighting and loosing it ...love it when the drag starts rippin off line
so got anchor in , a bit of a struggle , for a while ma arse was knitting buttons cos a was side on to swell and current ,but ma wee 2.5kg anchor done the business for me today.
quick pic of the lighthouse in distance
though i would celebrate a good day with a f*g and a can of me ol fave "black spider "
absolute nectar..
paddlin back in failing light took a few snaps for the report
the aerials at orford, there big old thing .must be 80 mtrs high
nice steady paddle back now ..its the bit am no keen on ,had to get a move on as turn wasnt far away , now the plan ad been to fish the sea in the light and then get int the river [alde] for a spot of bass huntin ,so gets to martello tower ..it wasnt till i dragged yak onto shingle ..i realised that the weight of fish that i had ...couple of shore dudes had came to see the yak , they had a quiet day !! one of the dudes where sort of tryin to take the piss [ think he was tryin to impress his buddies] but when he said " thats a waste of time , you never caught anything ..at least we got some fish" they had 5 codlin to mabee 3.5lb between them [ 4dudes] ..i then took away ma pfd which id thrown over the back of the elite...cod city was the words they used...so there you have it ...early in the day when i had the townie sayin why dont you fish from the bank ...thats why
decided the i was homeward bound ,wasnt lookin forward to the walk ...left 10pm ..stopped for a pint or two , for medicinal purposes ....and then se off for leiston [ 8mile]..goin along the road between aldeburgh n thorpness a copper had stopped me to enquire about my plans , told him i was walkin due to tidal flow in wrong direction, they still wanted my name ,,so i pointed to the back of yak and said thats ma name "PROWLER " ... i just go the look and walked away...f**kin idiots ,it was 11pm at night ..i was tired n a bit ratty
onwards i plod on stopped for rest and a wee pic of moon
gets to the el basterdo bit of a hlll , knackered ,out of breath , this guy on a bike passes me ..ffffk got a fright cos i thought i was only dafty out here on a quiet dark road..evening i said , he said is there anything i can do ...now this guys on a pushbike same as me he s out of breath..
i was only 3mile away from home , thank ....
thought ihavent taken any pic of ma haul so when i gt to he first streetlight i stopped for a snap [ sorry about lighting]
quite impressive for me
wasnt to long before i was at gaff , unloading and cleaning saltwater from gear ...cupa ,bite to eat and then fell into ma pit , need to get masel a licence.. and a dont think the c-tug can take much more abuse ...
a long way to go and fish from a yak ...cant wait till next time
sorry about long read ...dont get out much
Great report on what must have been a knackering day. I never got to fish down there unfortunately, Yarmouth was the closest. Use to catch those North Sea Cod on 1Kg Pirks when fishing out from Brid or Whitby and there was some big boys around then..late 70's, not sure how it is now. Good luck on your future trips mate.
