What is the weather forecast for the weekend? Heading down to East London on Thursday and keen to get some fishing in.

..Ja..look..weve just come off o0f the winter solstice AND this weekend we would have been through a bright moon spring ...Sooo..sea will be HUGE and with that front approaching ...I suspect the window of opportunity will be Saturday early...nice outgoing AM tides for our coast here...so we wait n see...

Mornings Folks...we have a rather serious looking cold front about to hit our coast this weekend ...its gonna be a tough time finding a decent window to go throw a line...

That being said ..Sunday morning will probably be the best BUT I fear the sea will still be on its head...

Pick your time and spot wisely...

Headed out to Chintsa on Friday and Saturday, fishing was really tough. Although got 4 juvenile black musselcracker which was nice. Their bigger siblings did not oblige in biting though. One or two shad came out.

Speaking of, are they coming out in Gonubie? Keen on a shad breakfast, but not keen on driving too far. Especially with the wind they are predicting tomorrow morning!

DAMN they musta been hungry and the water was a tad grubby...

Size of my hand or smaller. Like I said, TINY! But I must say, the water was surprisinlgy warm early morning, by lunch time the water to the left of the point had gone ice cold.

Are shad around Gonubie Kenty? A couple made their appearance at Chintsa on Saturday, but only two inbetween a lot of guys fishing for them

Hi Guys,

I will be in East London this weekend and staying in Gonubie. I actually grew up there so I am very familiar with the area. Furthermore I grew up surfing Gonubie and surrounds so I do know the spots very well. Some too well as I had a personal relationship with the reefs on way too many occasions. But I didnt fish them..

So I know that if I wanted to get into a nice elf now where to go and throw a plug here in the PE areas, but I dont know these spots in Gonubie.

I know all the spots in the sense of where they are. Gonubie Reef, The mouth, Main Beach, Rockbreak (Tidal Pool), Point, Barrier reef (thats what we called it the large gully Right of point) Black Rock, German Bay etc.

Any advise on spinning at these spots? Throwing plugs? Do the elf run at the point early morning? If throwing at the point is it better to cast right of the main break or do they frequent the deeper water where the surfers jump in? Black Rock Maybe? I usually start with some lures then switch to bait if no hits.

Just looking for some helpful input on an area I know very well from surfing, but never fished it.

Sorry , only see this now ..but as it has been on the weekends the conditions have been otherwise to say the least...BUT..

This approaching weekend looks pretty on course for some good windows of opportunity to get a line into the water...

Will update closer to the weekend....

If anyone can put you onto fish in that area its the species circled in red below:

Water conditions: With whisky
Favourite bait: Short fat women in short skirts
Favourite spots: Shady strip joints
Preferred tackle: G-string
Best times: Friday evenings after 10pm

Good day Folks..sorry been a bit AWOL of late...life has its moments ..hehe..

Anyhow...summer is approaching and winter is still throwing in the odd late cold front or 2...

Be that as it may ..we may just well be in business this weekend along our East coast...

Lets see what this weekend is going to deliver on our East coast , that stretches from Gonubie in the west to Kei mouth in the east , that is just on 50km of pristine coast line and fishing the conditions along here will certainly pay its dividends...

Will start giving an update from this Thursday for the coming weekend...

Also of note , the last 4 years have been pretty strange conditions on our East coast , while Im sure fish has come out , and to a large degree I havent fished much BUT , the past three weekends Ive noticed what I would term "normal" conditions . especially as tides are concerned , and I remember my ole man tell me that back in the mid 70s , they had a period of three odd years that things seemed a bit off...
